I've bought more vinyl in the past few weeks than I have in the past decade:

New stuff:

Genesis - The Last Domino? A 4-LP set of hits. Lots of pics inside of the band on their last tour.

Another ELO compilation. I'm a sucker for colored vinyl.

ABBA - Voyage. Their first new album in 40 years.

Now some old stuff:

Kate Bush - The Kick Inside. The record company released this with several different covers.

Got these a local church yard sale:

Roger Williams - Songs of the Fabulous 40s. I actually recognize a few of the titles.

The Melachrino Strings - Music for Reading

Knuckles O'Toole Plays Honky Tonk Piano Volume 3. I bought this because of the dude's name.

An assortment of Jackie Gleason 45s. The cover of Lonesome Echo was done by freaking Salvadore Dali!

As you can see, I was missing Part 3. Being a completist, I had to get the missing part, so off to ebay. Rather than spend too much for just one record (which I couldn't find by itself anyway), I went down the rabbit hole:

I got the whole set, but now Parts 1 & 2 are in a single set.

I bought a whole batch of these things:

All of the vinyl from the yard sale was pretty clean for its age, but I'm going to clean it all anyway.

Now I want to complete the Jackie Gleason stuff.

And I'm pretty sure wood 12 x 12 cube shelves with feet have been a furniture item since the 1960s, you don't necessarily have to go to IKEA to find one. I'm basing this solely off of my Mom's memory of her parents keeping their records in one though.

A few years ago, I bought a bunch of these:

Made by Foremost, but they seem to have been discontinued. I have a mix of black and white ones. They cost between $16-18 depending on where I got them (mostly Amazon). They're laminate over a wood-ish core held together with screws and dowels. They can be stacked together with smaller dowels.

The closest non-IKEA thing I've seen recently is made by Way Basics:

quote:

zBoard is a material made up of 99 percent post-consumer recycled paper (the remaining 1 percent is paper as well), completely recyclable and less than half the weight (with the same strength) of particle board.

These are a bit pricier at $35 each. They're held together with dowels and double-sided tape.

Picked up a couple of new releases this week:

Tori Amos - Ocean to Ocean

Christine McVie - Christine Perfect (reissue on white vinyl)

I have the 1976 reissue called The Legendary Christine Perfect Album. Original copies from 1970 are a bitch to find cheap.

White hot stampers are a whole other scam that is way more niche than the CGC or the video game one.

They are basically saying this in the FAQ.

Are Hot Stampers a good investment?

Hot Stampers sure sound better than other records, but do they have any real "collector" value?

Not really. On the surface they look just like any other pressing, so their market value cannot be established or verified in any meaningful way. The value of a Hot Stamper pressing is almost purely subjective: they exist only to provide listening pleasure to their owner. Yes, a Pink Label Island pressing of In the Court of the Crimson King is worth big bucks, but is it worth the $850 we charged recently if you were to try and resell it? Probably not.

I understand why a record collector would be confused by this notion of subjective and limited value. Collecting records is mostly about buying, selling and owning various kinds of records.

Blondie's first six albums plus a bunch of extra tracks and some booklets. It will be on black vinyl ($300), red vinyl ($330), & CD ($100). The bonus stuff will be available by itself on vinyl ($100) or CD ($35).

I love the first four albums. Autoamerican is okay and The Hunter is not so good.

Soooooo tempting.

I have seen other YouTubers talk about the same issue. It does happen, but how often, I don't know. There was one guy who opened a sealed gatefold album only to discover the inner surfaces had fused together.

I have set of sealed ELO albums and none of them are warped at all. I knew a guy who used to have a record store and he would cut a tiny opening along the open side of the cover for stress relief.

This is definitely an exception.

I usually have zero luck with records at charity shops. I mean, how many loving records did Ray Conniff make?

Anyway, I got these yesterday:

A five-LP set and, surprisingly, all five records were there AND they appear to have never been played.

Some 45s:

The b-side is just the instrumental version.

This appears to have been part of a box set (which was popular in the 50s)

Pretty much like most Ventures songs

I had no idea who these people were (apparently they were a "hillbilly" comedy act), but I got it for the b-side:

No, it's not a misprint. It's just the a-side played backward.

I only know of one other time this was done - Napoleon XIV's "They're Coming to Take Me Away".

Got this today:

Klaatu 3:47 EST (although this is the US version and is self-titled).

There was a rumor going around that this was actually The Beatles. There are parts that are very Beatle-ly. At first the band and the label did nothing to dispel the rumors, but somebody did a little digging and found the copyright info on the songs only to discover that it was just a band from Canada.

The sound is very 70s.

One reason I've been seeing is that, by remixing the music, it will get the current generation interested in it. I doubt this is true.

Lennon was a fan of finding bootlegs containing outtakes and alternate versions because he felt the finished product was too polished. I have a bunch of bootlegs and it is interesting hearing how the songs evolve. I have heard remixes of previous releases (The White Album, Abbey Road, etc) and I guess I just don't have the ear for it.
