Coming down to Vegas with a buddy for EDC in June so basically hitting Vegas but not actually doing it since we'll be at the speedway the entire time. Any advice/thoughts regarding this? Never actually traveled this far for a EDM show (excluding burning man, which I wouldn't really call a show) so this is new territory for me. I"m seriously considering this hangover bus I've been hearing about at the end of the weekend, ever done it? http://www.geekologie.com/2012/04/iv-drip-dispensing-bus-helps-relieve-han.php

Huh, I live here and I wasn't aware of that service. I wish I'd known about it a couple of months ago when they had to wheel me out of the Excalibur in a wheelchair.

Do most people walk around in shorts/tshirt/flip flops during the day?

People wear shorts/t-shirts/flipflops into the steakhouses. You will see shirtless men and women in dripping wet bikinis if you happen to wander into a part of the casino near the pool. Fashion is not a concern.

I live directly behind the Palms. On foot, you can get from my door to the Palms in two minutes, flat. I ought to start renting my spare bedroom to Vegas-bound goons. I could probably quit my job, it seems like there's always at least one goon on the way into town.

Hi, so I'm in the US after a very very impulsive decision and am looking to visit Vegas for a few days. I will be by myself and LV will be the last stop on my trip... I'm still not sure if I should stay 2 nights or 3, however I am pretty sure that I will be playing quite a bit of poker and some of the other casino games with low buy-ins.

My main question is what hotel should I stay at? Right now I am stuck between the Bellagio and Aria, both are at a similar price so I don't really lean anyway budget wise, just not sure about the overall experience, I do appreciate a fast in room wifi connection though as I do need to Video chat work every day for a while. I also noticed that the Wynn and Wynn encore is a lot more expensive, but I am willing to consider splurging there if it's really worth it.

Stay three nights if it doesn't matter to your wallet or timetable. Why stay two, if you can stay three?

I haven't stayed at the Wynn properties (I live here, so I only stay at local hotels if I decide to take a little staycation), but, unless you're going to shell out for a monster suite or something, I doubt it's worth trading up from the Bellagio or Aria.

What restaurants are a must to see? I will not have any suits with me, so I'm not interested in dressing up to eat, and more importantly as a single guy what are some decent clubs for me to check out? I will also be going to the spearmint rhino to see what the fuss is all about...

So yeah, single guy travelling to las vegas for 2 or 3 nights, need help with my hotel choice and dinner / clubbing options.

I don't think there's any way to make a reasonable "must eat" list for this city, there are just too drat many choices. Everyone you talk to will have his or her own list, you may as well just do a Google search and pick randomly from the top-rated places you find. Personally, I'd say hit Top of the World, because it's a rotating restaurant eight-hundred feet off the ground, and that's, you know, cool.

As for attire, excuse me while I laugh. Even in the most expensive properties, you'll see people in dripping wet bathing suits wandering the floor, and the dress code for all but the very fanciest restaurants is "no exposed genitals."

I'm not much of a clubber, so I can't help you, there.

Excalibur has cheap craps and the tables can be pretty rowdy and fun.

Pfft, you must be some kind of high roller. I stopped shooting craps at Jokers Wild when they doubled the minimum from $.50 to $1. Now, they have the nerve to make the table a $2 minimum on the weekends! Who can afford that?

Hey guys, I'm new to this thread so here it goes. My girlfriend and I are planning on going to Las Vegas from May 2 - May 4 for my buddy's 30th birthday. He's already booked a room at Treasure Island and I was wondering if anyone knows any good deals on hotel+flight+car rental. I'm hoping to stay within a hotel or two from TI and I'm flying from Phoenix, AZ. So far all I've seen are $650+/person package deals. Any help would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

I am seriously the king of online booking, I get into it like shaving dollars is a competitive sport. Are your dates set in stone? I see the following if you can go from the first to the fifth:

$222 each for the flight
$85 for an economy car, $103 for an intermediate
If you really need to be on the strip, near Treasure Island, you're looking at $110 - $200+ per night. If you want to save money, you could do something like the HoJo on Tropicana for $60ish per night. Since you plan on having a car, it's not that big a deal to stay off strip if saving money is your main concern.

I could also take a look at your exact dates, but in on a Friday and out on a Sunday is not good for flight prices.

$444 + $85 + $240 = call it $770 for the pair of you, on the low end if you go the first through the fifth.

If you want to upgrade to a full-size car and stay about 1/2 mile from Treasure Island (you're going to eat a bullshit "resort fee"), I see you looking at about $1,144 total. I could probably find $100 or so to save in there if you're willing to stay anywhere on the strip.

Had a fantastic time last weekend, playing at the El Cortez, Golden Nugget (where my free room was), the Cal, Binion's, and the Plaza. I think the Plaza is my favorite place to play craps. The dealers are amazingly friendly and funny, and they get the table energized too. I ended up the weekend down $100 over about 18 hours of play at various places, which is a rate I'm super happy with.

I hear they've cleaned up the El Cortez, but it used to be just about the crummiest house in the city. The El Cortez used to have a no-limit poker game that played with quarters. The blinds were $.25/$.50.

Off the strip, down Boulder Highway, is Jokers Wild. When I first moved here, Jokers Wild had $.50 craps. Then, they raised it to $2 and no one played, so they dropped it back to $1. The table goes up to a $2 minimum at midnight Thursday evening/Friday morning, and stays that way all weekend. It's hilarious to witness the limit change. There will be ten people standing at the table when the floor man switches the signs. The table will break immediately, and stay pretty much dead until the limit goes back down at the end of the weekend. There's no way that table is making them more money with the higher limit and zero players, but they're sticking to their guns.

Does anyone know what's up with Prohibition on Arville between Flamingo and Tropicana? It's used to be the Royal Frog. I've been driving and walking past it for years, and I don't think I have ever seen a single car in the parking lot. It's got a creepy black facade, but the sign is always on, and it says "Open." Yelp has a few reviews from people claiming to have gone in there, but, seriously: it looks like a ghost bar. It's absolutely desolate, with no activity whatsoever, except the sign. The windows are black, the door is always shut, and there's never a human being or a vehicle to be seen.

I should have been arrested several times. Even had a brief ambulance appearance after I was drunk by myself and passed out in the back of a taxi! Had the second worst hangover of my life (second to making prison wine when in college), but still all worth it. Can't wait to do it again.

Jesus, dude. That doesn't look like a good time. That looks like the last step before an intervention. This is coming from a man who was once removed from the Excalibur via wheelchair.

Edit: I would have had an ambulance ride, but my buddy wouldn't let them call one. I thought it was loyalty, now I kind of think maybe he just wanted me dead. I woke up the next afternoon in the back of his car in 112 degree heat, with the sun shining directly on my face.

The closest is Charleston and Nellis, I think? Should be a quick bus ride. Alternative is take the Duece to the strip so you have something to do after eating.

East Sahara between Rancho and Valley View is closer. Neither one is really walking distance, but both should be pretty well covered by bus routes. You're only looking at about three miles to the one on Sahara, so even a taxi wouldn't be too bad.

I'm taking my wife to Absinthe next month, does anybody have any seating suggestions? I've seen a lot of complaints about the uncomfortable, close together seating on the floor, but we can still get 4th row aisle seats. Otherwise, I've seen that several recommend the tables in the back for the best experience. FWIW, my wife is about 5'6". Thanks!

The floor seats are loving ridiculous. Unless you're a wood sprite, or a pixie, you'll be crowded and uncomfortable. Sit in the cut-open bathtubs up on the riser that runs around the performance area.

If you're game for cabbing anywhere I got a room at the Golden Nugget for like 450 for a week and have heard good things about it. Maybe that's a bit too far away, though.

And JaySB, I sent you a PM.

Edit: and are the tables at the back at Absinthe better than the chairs on the floor? I like the idea of a table much better than a chair on the floor.

Staying home watching Family Guy reruns is better than the chars on the floor at Absinthe. I think I posted in here about it, before. I sat in one of the cut-out bathtubs on the outside walkway, and it was great.

I really enjoyed the cheap food and obvious locals at the Ellis Island. The beer was good and the food hot and ready. The people......

I was at the Ellis Island karaoke show a while back. It's my turn, so I go up to that lovely little platform they make you stay on while you sing. I'm like fifteen seconds into my song, when I look up and see a woman with linebacker shoulders and a frumpy wool dress. She cruises over to where I'd just been sitting (like four feet from the stage), picks up my drink, takes a swig, then bends her head down over it and steams out the door at top speed, sucking out of the glass the entire time.

Ellis Island is the dregs. If you wanted a shittier casino experience, you'd have to go back in time ten years and play poker at the El Cortez.

Naturally, Ellis Island is packed to the gills all the time. I am apparently the only person on the planet who thinks it sucks.
