Also going to be in town for EDC >:D however, my wife and I got stuck with a $500 deposit at our new school that we weren't expecting. Because of this, we're looking to do our trip on the wayyy cheap if possible XD our hotel and trip are covered, but I'm wondering where the best places to eat for really cheap are, especially any good buffets that are cheap. Also, we're going to be out there for a full week, obviously we have some money, but we're wondering if there's any good free entertainment we should try and catch on the weekdays. Thanks in advance for any tips.

The Buffet of Buffets is a pretty good deal: http://www.caesars.com/total/las-vegas/buffet-of-buffets/

$45 if you sign up for their free rewards card, or $50 otherwise.

You get 24 hours of entry into any of 6 buffets (Rio, Harrah's, Paris, Flamingo, Planet Hollywood, Imperial Palace).

If you time it right, you can get breakfast, lunch, dinner, and breakfast the next day, which is a pretty good deal. (Although honestly after doing breakfast you can probably last until dinner...)

Following everyone else about Vegas on a budget, what's the best way to get the cheapest tickets for shows?

Wife and I are leaving for Vegas today, we'd like to see a show or two but, to be honest, we're not that picky. Whatever we can get tickets to for a good price we'll go to.

Bill's (hotel where we're staying) has a http://www.tix4tonight.com/ booth which says it releases tickets 1/2 off which might work. Has anyone had experience with them? Worthwhile?

Would a walkup to the ticketbooth close to the start time be advisable? For example, Wayne Brady is doing a show at the Mirage at 10PM tonight. If we were to pop in at 9:30PM and ask at the ticketbooth for cheap tickets, if they're available, do they release them for cheaper?

I used them for Penn & Teller tickets and they were great. Rio box office told me Balcony seats on the side and 5th level would run me $92 each (this was ~ 8 hours before showtime). Tix4tonight got me 4th level center for $52 each! They had just about every show on the strip, based on their lists I saw.

The one downside is that the tickets you buy are will-call at the box office. The seats you get are based upon the time you pick up the tickets, not purchase them. So I recommend you buy your tickets at Bill's early, then go immediately to the casino for your show and pick up the tickets to get the best seats. It is a bit of a pain, but well worth it in my opinion.

I was there memorial day weekend so it was super crowded and not sold out shows seemed unlikely. It's possible during the week that you might fare better at the box office, but I don't have experience with that.

Thoughts on some of the better sports books in Vegas? I've been to both Caesar's and Rio's and found them to be good, but I don't have a lot to compare them too, especially for football season. I've got comped rooms at Luxor this weekend and was thinking of hitting up a book for pro and/or college football. I assume the Luxor's will be terrible, but I've heard MGM or Mandalay Bay would be a decent/close alternative. Any other places I should consider that have specific pros (better comps, atmosphere, etc) to going?

It's just the type of bed in the room. I don't really care if it's a king or two queens. I'm more curious whether they're actually offering me a better room or just a different location in the hotel. They want an additional 10 dollars for the entire stay. I'd rather throw that 10 dollars on black and hope for the best if the room isn't actually better.

Try signing up for m life (their rewards program). When I was there a month ago, I signed up online and had the pyramid king deluxe for $88 Fri/Sat and $48 Sun.

We also got the upgrade offer and chose to ignore it (my wife really wanted to stay in the pyramid). When we got in late Friday evening they upgraded us to the tower due to overbooking, but we moved back to the pyramid for the next two nights. I honestly could not tell a difference between the rooms. So I'd recommend saving your bucks and enjoying the bigger bed.

Going to vegas with my girlfriend the weekend of dec 14-17. I looked into seeing Cirque du Soleil O but they are on vacation that week. I've seen a Soleil show before so not too wild about seeing another unless its really amazing. What would the next best show that is playing that weekend? Or instead of a show what would be something else similar to a "show" that we could do? We aren't going to be gambling or drinking and I don't even know why we are going other than I've never been. What is something that is totally awesome and only in vegas? thanks

Absinthe is a cool variety show. Penn & Teller is a really entertaining and funny magic show. Wandering around inside the Bellagio/watching the fountain show (check it out both during the day and at night) is entertaining for a bit. Take a trip to Fremont street one night for the Fremont St Experience.

Man, Vegas with no drinking sounds like a bummer. Half the fun is just wandering around with beverage in hand, taking in the sights and sounds.

Okay folks,

My trip is still 9 months away but I'm excited and I think it's fun planing it.

Anyways on my last trip, we didn't get to a lot of casinos (to look/ogle at).

Is it safe to say I skip the following casinos for lack of "attractions"?
-Tropicana
-Bally's
-Riviera
-TI
-Harrah's
-Monte Carlo

Also, how is Zarkana? (I'm staying at the Aria for 3 nights). Or should I skip it? I liked Ka' for what that's worth.

Also, does anyone have any grand canyon tips? I'm planning on doing the drive down, staying the night and driving back.

Monte Carlo has a beer pub in it where they have their own brews. They aren't anything extraordinary, but if you are near it I'd recommend it if you like beer.

TI has a horribly awkward pirate with sirens sore that is free to watch outside the casino. I can't stress how bad it is, but if you've had a couple of drinks and want to laugh, it might be worth your time.

Tropicana did a recentish remodel, but it wasn't anything special. I don't recall anything particularly noteworthy about the others you listed either.

That sounds like heaven, thanks!

One last question for show oriented folks, which seats should one get for P&T? I assume fairly close?

Obviously closer is better, but I went and had the cheapest seats at the top and towards the back and could see everything really clearly and fine. It's a fairly small auditorium by most standards, so there aren't any bad seats per se.

Also, make sure to stick around after the show. They both come out and mingle with people, take pictures, etc and will stick around until they've met everyone, no matter how many people are there or how long it takes. It was really cool (and also drives home what a giant man Penn is).

Some friends and I are planning on going to Vegas this summer for a convention. There's 5 of us, and some of the group are cheap, so the current plan is to stuff all of us in 1 room. The event is at Bally's so the plan was to stay there, but it looks like the cap is 4 people, as I expected.

If we have 5 people in the room, do we risk getting kicked out? I'd gladly pay a fee for the extra person but it doesn't seem like that's even an option.

They won't know and won't care as long as you aren't causing problems. I did 6 people at Caesar's quite awhile back and we had absolutely no problems, aside from space issues. It was a good excuse for me to just not come to the room ever.

Makes sense. Yeah, if you're already hitting two French places, branch out and do something else. Living in the Bay Area, you probably don't have much access to decent southern food (at least, I didn't growing up in the east bay) so give Yardbird a try. It was good, just didn't blow me away like I'd had people tell me it would. I bet you'll like it.

Oh, I didn't get to try é, but Jose Andres' other (more casual) restaurant in the Cosmopolitan is called China Poblano, and it is loving incredible. Asian/Mexican fusion "small plate" meals. The dumplings are delicious and addictive. I can't remember if they're always open for lunch - I feel like they kept weird hours when I was there last December.

Seconding that if you haven't eaten a lot of southern food and your only exposure is the bay area then do yardbird. Bay area southern cuisine is embarrassing.
