Hooters is semi-walkable from the Cosmo and had cheap ($5 or $10, even on weekends) blackjack tables. The drink service is pretty good too. The ambiance is obviously lame, but that's not why you're there. I don't think Casino Royale had any standard blackjack tables, only that stupid Blackjack Switch game. Other than that, I don't think there's any other low limit place on, or reasonably close to, the south part of the strip.

What's a good place on-strip to watch the USA - Mexico soccer match on Saturday night? I don't feel like dealing with college football fans/bettors so it seems like the sportsbooks would be out. I'm staying at Caesars if it matters.

Chocolate Milk posted:I was looking at the Flamingo as an option for a first trip in May next year. Are the "go" rooms worth the extra over the "fab" rooms? They're pretty nice. The TV is bigger, there's a TV in the bathroom, the shower has multiple showerheads, and it has a fridge which is convenient for pregames and postgames. You can probably 20 dollar trick your way into one unless you're arriving on a Friday or on Memorial Day weekend. (and perhaps even then)

Where can I go to eat and not be a weirdo eating alone? It's actually sorta nice eating alone since you can go somewhere and sit at the bar and not wait like everyone else. When I went to Gordon Ramsay Burgr by myself, the options were a 90 minute wait for a table or a 0 minute wait for a bar seat. So I guess my answer is "someplace that serves food at the bar." Vegas always has a fair number of solo people though, so if you really wanted to eat at a place I wouldn't really worry about it.

There is a Yardhouse in the alley by the Linq, it may be a chain but they have all the craft beer you could possibly need. There is a pizza place directly across from it that had a good beer selection too.

The front of Bally's was under construction last time I was there since they're building yet another giant CVS or Walgreen's on the strip. I dunno if that's finished yet. Of those hotels the Velocibacon posted, Harrahs is surely the best if for no reason other than location and saved $$$ on cabs/ubers/monorial and saved pounding on your feet.

What are the best sushi places on the strip? The company I'm working for now, the head honchos love sushi. We went to Shibuya the other night and I thought it was good, not great. (And hideously overpriced, but I wasn't paying so whatever)

Yeah I knew it was gonna be expensive, but not "triple the price of a good sushi restaurant in SF" expensive. But again, not my money. Thanks for the recommendations.

Yomofo posted:Polo Towers? I just google mapped it, I guess it's a 6-7 min walk north up the strip from the MGM. That's more like a 20-25 minute walk since MGM is immense, and most of the rooms are at the opposite end of the property from the exit you would use to walk to the Polo Towers.

Harrah's has low ceilings and can get a little thick. Casino Royale is a small dump where it seems as if everyone smokes. I'd avoid those two. Also, I didn't know about this. Although I'm not sure why I would, since even back when I smoked I wouldn't get a smoking room because smoking in a 300 sq. foot room where you can't open the window is super gross. "" posted:

No interest in gambling, but probably interested in wandering and ogling at the high end shops. Maybe catch a show. Eat some good food. We're from Minnesota so it'll be warm for us, but is it cold enough that the city slows down any or will it be fine? The Augustus tower rooms at Caesars are really nice and have a nice big jacuzzi. Make sure you don't go during CES which is January 5-8 or you'll pay a fortune for your room, and the strip gets annoyingly crowded too.

The $20 trick works like a dream when they have availability. The only time it hasn't worked for me when I was checking into MGM on a Friday and they were hosting a UFC PPV and a huge convention on Saturday so the hotel was absolutely packed, and even then the front desk guy was searching on his computer for like 5 minutes before he just gave me the $20 back and said they didn't have anything. But I've used it successfully at Caesars, Flamingo, MGM, and Mirage for a pretty substantial upgrade in rooms. If you and GF are dead set on a nicer room than you should just book one and be done with it.. But if it's more of an optional thing I would definitely try the $20 trick, especially if you are arriving midweek.

My wife and sister in law want to go Downtown on Saturday night to go to the Neon museum, which means we'll probably be having dinner downtown as well. I have zero knowledge of Downtown restaurants. What's a place with good food and beer that would have the UFC and US soccer game on?

Eataly is great and has lots of options but can be brutally crowded if there is an event at T Mobile arena. We went there at like 6 PM the same night as Paul McCartney was playing and ended up eating our food standing up. So basically go at any other time of day. Which is what I tried to tell my wife and sister in law, to no avail.

CapnAndy posted:I do, yes, but I can watch sports at home. Shouldn't I have something better to do with my time? Also, shocking that there's still smoking in the Vegas casinos. I work for a casino and our customer satisfaction went up when we finally went no-smoking (because it was impossible to enforce a mask mandate otherwise); turns out nobody likes being in a place that stinks. The first weekend of April is the Final Four, which would definitely be worth watching at a sports book or sports bar. Is sitting in a sports book and watching early regular season baseball a good use of your time? Probably not. 3 nights is my sweet spot. 4 nights is perfectly fine too. Longer than that and you start getting burned out, at least I do. The smoking is definitely obnoxious, we spent a lot of time at Park MGM simply because it's smoke free even though it's far from the most exciting place. Paris seemed fairly non-smoky, I think because of the higher ceilings.

We stayed at Horseshoe in October and I think we spent a grand total of like 15-20 minutes gambling there. It's so stuffy and smoky due to it being an old building with a low ceiling. We spent more time in Paris instead. But as you said, the hotel is good value and the location is prime.
