The new joker album is pretty good, but I think it would be WAY better without vocals. Apparently an instrumental version is going to be released, so that's a good thing. Nothing against vocals in dance music, but in this case, they're all rather poorly done and get in the way of the music.

I'm kind of disappointed by it, the best songs are ones I played out in early 2010. Need to give it more plays though, but my expectations were high.

In this mix for Mary Ann Hobbs Joker plays a bunch of old sega poo poo. At the show he asked "who had a sega megadrive" but you could barely understand him with his accent and being as hosed up as he was.

My friend told me Zed's Dead was his favorite set from Ultra trying to convince me to see them in April or whatever last year. All I knew of them was some "brostep remixes" on UKF and my respone was pretty much 'really?'. But I went to the show and they dropped Rumble in the Jungle which was super new at the time, and the vibe as I was tripping was so loving good. Song got them on Mad Decent pretty much, so different and just amazing. I've seen them 3 times total now and love their sets. They have progressed over the past two years and have a unique/fresh sound now, basslines are so dope. Undah Yuh Skirt track with Movado is a roller.

I just got back from seeing DJ Manny b2b J-Cush, DJ Rashad b2b DJ Spinn, Loefah, and Falty DL b2b Dave Q in a tiny dark back room of a bar in Brooklyn.

Great sets all around. Footwork from the footwork DJs, then Loefah played some Swamp stuff then some garage, ending on Highland Spring. Not too much dubstep but he played a good hour of DMZ stuff when I saw him Monday so it was okay. He also played Pulse X and Ice Rink tonight and it was my first time hearing either on a system. Falty DL and Dave Q played some footwork then a bunch of jungle when the 20 or so people left started yelling for it. I went over to say hi to Loefah and he saw my Suburban Base shirt and asked "How do you know about Sub Base?" I told him I was really in to rave and he said "I'm gonna go play a Sub Base song for you right now." and put on

The T&B side was better than I expected! I came in like 15 minutes into AC Slater's set, which wasn't anything special, but then Silkie and Elijah both played amazing sets (no surprise), then B. Rich played like 45 minutes of 91-92 ardkore, and then we left. So I guess I only saw an hour and a half of T&B. But any time I can here old skool when I'm out is fine by me. And I got to talk to Elijah for a bit. He's a really personable guy! He told me that the Ghetto Kyote reissue hit a snag cause whoever has the rights ceased contact, in case anyone else was still anxiously waiting. Great night.

Saw Author - V.I.V.E.K. - Jack Sparrow - Ruckspin - Pinch - Joe Nice on the 2nd at Reconstrvct VI. The one year birthday for VII edition is July 28th, featuring Coki - Jay 5ive - special Deep Medi guest who I'm guessing is either Mala for DMZ set with Coki or Kromestar because of Jay 5ive and his collabs. Reconstrvct has steadily been stepping it up and has now become one of the best nights for bass music in the U.S. as I see it.

Youngsta never speaks, it's MC Toast, unless it was a guest MC. I don't have a problem with him at all, he knows when to let the tracks breath a lot better than 99% of MC's in my opinion.

Hedmuk, FatKidOnFire - two blog type's (I actually contribute for FKOF in terms of doing write-ups on the New York area) that are constantly putting out mixes and free tunes, etc. Though it may be too repetitive - doesn't seem like too many people are into or grow tired of the, uh, "Biome sound" I'll call it, stuff.

Saw Youngsta and Biome in Brooklyn last night - great times, great dark warehouse venue. AMIT tunes just took over that system. On the subject of Coki, seeing him in Brooklyn over the summer remains one of the most enjoyable sets I've experienced, could've been the ketamine though. Peanut butter and jelly combination, mental Coki tunes one after the next that no one really plays let alone the best on vinyl in a set, just melting your brain.
