Ambiguatron posted:Martin apparently has no idea what a "foot" is. Either that, or Westeros uses a different system of measurement that is nevertheless steeped in the same terminology. Unless there's some magic involved, Gregor Clegane would have serious heart problems and probably keel over by the time he's 35. Being athletic enough to be a knight, much less be exceptionally strong, would kill him. Gregor is supposed to be a foot taller than Andre the Giant. Think about that. Actually there were many different foot unit in the pre-industrial world, with the imperial one falling in the middle of the range. Belgian feet would give him the height of your average bouncer. That or Martinworld has lower gravity. Or it is fantasy.

So I read the two Dance of Dragons short. Basically they're wikipedia articles for something that does not exist, but I still found them surprisingly readable. So yeah.

They still have to give the real characters something to do so the actors don't jump ship.

No clue but we're on third Hound/second Tommen for example, so clearly they don't lock their cells very well. And it happens in plenty other series that actors go AWOL. Realistically, if they really want to leave, what can you do?

Aegon (if true) still comes first. The Targaryen system is not really fixed and seems to have some ad hoc wriggling (like many medieval inheritances) but mostly it excludes/push farther down the line women. There has however been several precedents of calling a council of the great lords to decide thorny cases, and such a council could concievably overrule a previous one.

It is weird (but narratively understandable) that houses endure for thousands of years. Historically they would rise and fall much faster. And the surviving ones would spread a lot more.

I really dug the chapter where Stannis army gets bogged down in the snows like Russia invaders. Dealt well with the rising despair, everything falling apart, etc. And of course it's a metaphor for the series.
