It's my hope that between word of mouth and Steam sales, the "well actually we own the IP to the game, not SEGA" which later turned into "we'd totally make AP2 if we got the chance" will eventually become "here is AP2. Part of me thinks if you wanted to continue the AP universe you'd almost have to do it as a prequel or else people are going to feel alienated in a world that either doesn't acknowledge their particular choices or counts one approach as canon. Deus Vult would be sick.

Maybe with the money they could save cutting out combat almost entirely they could focus on what AP did best and also release a game that makes economic sense. Regarding reviewers, even Yahtzee, who I usually respect for calling out bullshit games like The Witcher when nobody else seemed to, didn't seem to give AP a chance. Dude characterized it as "a game about a PMC that is secretly evil." Even if we cut him some slack and assume he doesn't mean VCI (the only PMC in the traditional sense of the word,) I don't know how you could play past Saudi Arabia and limit it to that.

However, I showed up decked out in combat armor during this run and carrying an assault rifle. What's interesting is you can do a sort of stealth-assault rifle run too. That was my second run. You still make plenty of noise but you pick your shots and take them quickly and accurately to drop anyone before they get to an alarm.

That's a shame, this game is certainly a good companion to the Mass Effect series for your hybrid FPS/RPG dollars. Oh well. Sega said they won't publish it. Obsidian still owns the IP and has said they at least would make a new AP given the chance. I'm hoping the Steam sale has expanded the probable player base of a sequel enough that it starts making economic sense. poptart_fairy posted:My favourite complaint against KOTOR2 has always been how frustrated and angry people get about its approach to black/white, Light/Dark morality. It's meant to be complicating and confusing things, it's demonstrating how morality systems as binary and simplistic as that simply don't work under any sort of scrutiny; the game's theme is of deconstruction. Deconstruction and then reconstruction, I felt like. Like in place of black and white morality it gave you existentialism. You reject that Ayn Rand 'charity is malevolent' bullshit morality and reject nihilism in favor of a positivist morality that, newly mindful of its shortcomings, still asserts that it's better to stand for something even in the face of the meaninglessness and irrationality of existence. As much as I love Obsidian, I don't try to be a total fanboy. It's not like I'd call KOTOR2 high art, but how many games even get beyond binary morality in any way other than the grim anti-hero? I'd wager even fewer go where K2 did.
