Ok, I'm downloading this now through Steam. Playing through as a recruit my first time sounds enticing, but how boned will I be on skill points? Tiny inner ear boned, arm boned, or entire skeletal structure boned? Is recruit a viable way to play the first time through (I get that it's a class rather than a game difficulty, and thanks to those that have explained this), or is it more geared toward a new game + experience, where the player laughs at the more naive main character and uses the lack of skill points as a way to make a repeat playthrough more challenging?

Definitely the latter. There's some jokey dialogue changes and you start off with no skills. But you'll be fine as long as you don't spread points too thin and focus in on 3 skills or so, including one gun skill. It'll just take longer to get going at the beginning.

Actually yeah I think so, I've never had the issues. The camera stutter seems to be caused by level assets loading in the background as you're progressing through the mission. The APEngine.ini fixes in the OP should mitigate most of that.

Mina doesn't say anything about him and the controls are locked in place like they're waiting for her info.

Please tell me there's a fix. I was having so much fun. :(

Someone had a fix for this in the old thread but I can't seem to find it right now. IIRC there's a missing Mina audio file that it's trying to play when you ID him. First off try verifying your Steam cache, check for any missing files. If it still doesn't work, upload your savegame somewhere and post the link in the thread, I can probably play past that checkpoint and send it back.

The thing about the minigames is that the difficulty on all the critical path locks and doors are really easy. All the super hard ones just lead to stuff like side loot and bonuses that are suppose to reward players who invested in Sabotage or in the armor upgrades. You're never really stuck moving forward in the game because you're locked out of a minigame you can't beat.

I don't want to miss my chance to get it if so. :ohdear:

You can always sell extra ammo and that sort of thing, it's usually enough to buy you the intel you need. As for the armor - select it and go into the 'extra info' part, it should say which faction is selling it. I think it's G22 but I don't remember exactly. As long as you don't do anything to piss them off entirely then it should continue to be available for sale.

Well EA said DA2 sold 2 million. AP sold 700k after a month; I'd imagine after a year and various sales they would have reached 1 million by now. So contrary to popular belief this game didn't completely bomb or anything. Of course, Sega execs publicly threw this game under the bus just after it was released, but I'd think it was partly due to the long development and costs, and not just entirely because of gross incompetence.

The dialogue battle thing isn't quite the same in DX. On the surface there's 3 choices like in AP, but 1 of them is the usually the correct answer and 2 are wrong answers. The goal is to 'win' the conversation, so it's more like a multiple choice quiz. AP doesn't really have 'wrong' answers, just divergent outcomes.

I honestly prefer a lot of AP's stealth stuff better. I find a lot of DX:HR's AI detection errs on the side of BS especially on higher difficulties, and between the complete pointlessness of the lethal options, and the ridiculous reliance on chowing down candy bars to punch more than one person in a row, it gets kind of stupid. AP's stealth is way overpowered in comparison, but at least I can feel more like a badass in there instead of a dumbass. I do wish AP had body dragging though.

Okay, finally started playing this game. Despite going with level 2 Stealth and Pistol/Chain Shot, I completely blow on the orientation runs (save the Gadget/Grenade area) and the first Saudi mission (Nasri). It seems any attempt at stealth fucks up, I have to go through at the four big open area setpieces with the guards on heightened alert, including one where I managed to stealth all the way through, only to have a guard appear once my Awareness expired and alert everyone to my presence. For the first mission, it seems that the only good weapon are my fists, as I have to mag dump my pistol into someone to potentially kill them and the SMG can't hit the broadside of a barn. I just run screaming into the guys and beat the poo poo out of them. Also, the deactivate alarm and computer hacking minigames frustrate the hell out of me.

Second mission, the detention camp, was a lot easier because I used the rifle, getting crit shots on everything in the big open area. I got the Limited Bloodshed perk, which added 10 to my Endurance. I managed to figure out how to work Chain Shot and, man, does that make things poo poo loads easier (my best one was killing two guards at once with it) and I desperately either want to find something that will decrease the cooldown or increase the number of shots chained. Also, I used Radio Mimic to shut down alarms.

Is there a way to continue to improve my experience with this game, like certain equipment to find? I'm wondering if the map purchases are worth it, since, on the Nasri mission, the map was loving useless and got me into more trouble than I wanted to.

Also, is there way to buy addition customization options. I really want black Razors shades instead of those bright orange ones.

Just know that with pistols, don't go pew-pew-pew like with other games. Always wait till the reticle turns red and aim for the head, even when you're under fire. One bullet should be one kill.

But if you're having success with the rifle then just stick with that? Even if you're stealthing, you can buy special subsonic bullets that are silenced. Again with that, it pays to wait till the reticle lines up.

You can respec all your points once, at the of Saudi Arabia.

First, don't use the quick load button, it's messed up as you saw. Use the manual reload screen.

Second, there should be an autosave at your last safehouse if that doesn't work.
