Neeksy posted:I am honestly more interested in Caligula lately, even though it’s a flawed-as-hell game. The online creator culture with vocaloids and people producing music video stories was a neat angle to use as a vector for talking about escapism. The PS4 updated version has a FeMC and I hope it gets released in the west because it looks interesting but the Vita version ran like crap.

CJ posted:How is it because he's old? To me the game's biggest problem is it feels like they went in to it wanting to hit a series of specific plot beats and did a poor job of creating a story around it. I don't know what age has to do with it. Old people suck and have bad opinions

CJ posted:I think it's pretty weird that you can get so upset about 2 scenes that discriminate against gay people and yet be so willing to discriminate based on age. I don't know much about japanese society but is there that much of an age difference in attitude towards gay people? If it was directed by a japanese guy in his 20s or 30s would there be no chance of those scenes being included? I HAVE poo poo TASTE AND CANNOT BE TRUSTED

CJ posted:I think it's mainly an american thing to hate police. There's not much animosity towards them in the UK. Japan as a society seems to like their police even more and P5 is pretty explicit about how the police and other government institutions are corrupt so i don't know how you can say that that's an issue. I agree that the Persona games have some pretty problematic stuff with regards to gay people and terrible scenes like Ryuji looking up Ann's skirt when she falls asleep and the beach anime cutscene, but i'm pretty sure that's just a result of japan/anime culture rather than the game director being an out of touch old man. That same exact poo poo was in Persona 3. I live in the uk and loving hate the police

I'm amazed they're even still around. That 'if enough people pre-order Devil Survivor 2 we'll release it' thing was hilarious when it had been out for like two years and everyone who cared had already imported it from the US.

Is there a recommended stat to pump for the MC in SMT 4 or should I just go with what I'm gonna use most skill wise + some luck?

Are there like any general tips for bosses in SMT 4? Any fight that not a one sided stomp for me on the first turns into a one sided stomp against me and obviously the former isn't going to happen on a boss. Currently stuck on Medusa.

You can play it on PS3, unless the emulation for that is considered janky

My favourite one of those is the eye poke machine from Dead Space 2, it was freaking horrific the first couple times then by the fifth time you hosed it up because Issac moved his eye the wrong way a fraction of a second too late it was just loving annoying.

There are approximately zero Japanese companies who don't consider the western market more important for traditional games because even the most obscure otaku focused thing possible will still sell more here than in the mobile obsessed domestic market.

Not so far, I doubt Atlus would leave money on the table like that but it also wouldn't be the first time they passed on a western release something because it was on a system that was in the way out.

The problem with the touch screen is that games have to be playable docked so very few make it an integral part of the experience.

Yakuza 3 had a bunch of stuff cut for the western localisation because Sega were trying to cheap out and somehow thought no one would care when the only people who knew and cared about Yakuza then were hardcore fans. And the hostess stories were still there they just cut out the club bits.

The Japanese reaction to Answer x Answer getting cut from the western version was 'lucky bastards'. It's not in the remaster at all.

Currently playing through DDS1, anything I should watch out for or skills I should beeline other than obviously the buffs/debuffs? I'm like 6 hours in and muddling through okay just learning whatever, it seems easier than other SMT games I've played in general anyway.

Dragonatrix posted:You need two elements. Two. This isn't some kind of gotcha trap. One single target skill and one multi-target skill. Tada, you win. I thought it was like a bunch of orbs each one weak to a different element and you had to destroy three of them quickly or it did a super mega laser attack that wiped your party? It has been like 15 years though.

Is it weird that I preferred DDS when I had a forced party? Having a full roster with different specialisations would work a lot better if swapping them out was a free action and I didn't have to keep a passive equipped for people not in the party to get experience.
