New album from Hiraes is some really good melodeath. Jari is the perfect example for stronger social safety nets because in america he would be doing some lovely normal job like the rest of us instead of making insanely overproduced metal albums once every 35 years It is also extremely easy to see why ensiferum moved considering they wanted to keep making music and, you know, money.

As an American, Jari Mäenpää seems like it would be a relatively uncommon name, but there are 11 LinkedIn profiles with the name and none are obviously the musician I'm not sure why I always look, but it started with looking up Van Williams from Nevermore and being delighted that he used to work on Nintendo Power and Pokemon cards

It was just weird to hear the song "wrong" at first but after a few listens it lands better. Their drummer left the band after this album was recorded and they sold it as a "return to roots" decision so we'll see how that plays out. I don't hate their work with a drummer but I think they were more interesting without one. Still hate every one of their songs with vocals though.

is it just me or is the production on the new witch vomit album pretty rear end? i feel like this and the tomb mold album from last year are so much quieter and less full sounding than other comparable albums. who is 20 buck spin hiring for this poo poo. going from either of the two mentioned albums to, for instance, the new brodequin is like going from someone whispering at you from across the room at a party where other noise is getting in the way to someone yelling in your face after everyone else left.

I really like the raw, dynamic production, particularly the drums. I never got into that Tomb Mold album, it just felt a bit flat composition wise, but I ended up going back several times for the mix. More organic-sounding mixes in death metal, please, this volume wars poo poo is making everything sound the same.
