I am listening to the new Judas Priest album. I'm liking it a lot? That said I'm not really super invested in them so I don't have much in the way of expectations. What's their best work/period though?

nthing British Steel and Screaming For Vengeance being their best non-Painkiller work. I'd say from Sad Wings through Painkiller is a solid run, barring missteps like Point of Entry and Turbo.

Point of Entry has a few solid tracks in "Don't Go" and "Solar Angels," and the Ripper Owens era ain't without merit either; "Death Row," "Brain Dead," "Bullet Train," and "Cathedral Spires" are the highlights of Jugulator, and Demolition has "Feed on Me" and "In Between."

Sorry. The drum fills on Heading Out to the Highway from the Point of Entry album are the stuff of dreams.

Point of Entry also has Hot Rockin' which is metal royalty in my book.

I love Judas Priest. They're my favorite classic metal band. Even their worst song, which is Parental Guidance and no one can argue with me about that, is still better than the majority of what's out there in that genre.

I'll have to comb back through these albums again, it's been a hot minute.

Priest was the first band my friend and I went through in college, just taking in classic metal bands' discographies, and they remained one of the best ones we went through next to Motorhead.

California is the one song I don’t think I care for on the album :( Dark Empath and Angel Defiled are standout bangers, and The Best Things is also great (but I am an absolute sucker for ballads).

There's a bonus track on Point of Entry that's a live version of Desert Plains and I really like the faster tempo that version has.

If you're looking for another consistent discography, Motorhead's is drat near immaculate. It's an upward slope that plateaus in a very good spot.

Lemmy had a way with his lyrics, he was a metal poet, especially the title track for Orgasmatron.

My picks for best 3 albums from them are Ace of Spades, 1916, and Inferno.

fyi for maryland deathfest folks:

quote:

FYI for Maryland Deathfest people, if you are staying at our usual Holiday Inn Express on Gay St or the Sleep Inn- the city has bought these for public housing and the deal will have closed by May. They are slowly calling and cancelling people (very slowly if you used a 3rd party to book) but if you get ahead of it call the hotel # and choose reservations. The agent will tell you it's still an active reservation if you booked 3rd party- but if you have them verify, the hotel will tell you its closed by May and they are slowly cancelling people (from a fully booked hotel on Memorial Day weekend). Get an IHG rewards #(do this first) and they will offer you the same rate and a reservation at the Candlewood Suites or Hotel Indigo which are also IHG.

I was caught in this and had to spend some time on the phone convincing the agent that the hotel was indeed closing, he called and verified and was able to move me.

If you are at either of these hotels get to it.

Seriously, what happened to Barnes? He was one of the sickest vocalists ever. On Tomb he had some of the grossest gutturals I had ever heard at the time. Same with Butchered and even the first few Six Feet Under records. Those records and the vocals still sound great. The Scooby Doo yelps he's doing now are unlistenable. The laziest death metal vocals.

The thing with wear and tear related problems like vocal nodules or MTD is that everyone imagines them as something that just affects your sound. It's more like one of your vocal folds has a tip made of broken glass and you have a really, really good incentive to sing around it
