Therion - Leviathan III This is the return to form that the band's been attempting to pull off for the last few albums. It's not as good as their best work, but it's easily better than anything they've done in the last decade. I tried to pick a highlight but everything's good enough that it doesn't really work.

A couple strong releases to start off the year: Drown In Sulphur - Dark Secrets of the Soul They call themselves deathcore but I would've guessed straight death metal. There's some nice slower/doomy material here too. Dark Oath - Ages of Man Symphonic death metal, which I guess is melodeath with more keyboards.

Vipassi - Lightless Prog tech death, along the lines of Cynic's Focus. This'll be on my year end list unless 2024 turns out to be really amazing.

Dusk and Her Embrace is one of the all-time classics for sure. I'm not sure if they have any really bad albums, but they definitely had a bit of a slump in the early to mid 2000s and I fell off then.
