Keldian re-mastered both of their albums and released them for free on their website and are working on a new album. While they don't bring anything new to the field, a Norwegian power metal band is rare and their stuff is well produced and drat catchy. I'm a sucker for sci-fi inspired lyrics, pretty sure they even have a song about the old PC game Freelancer.

Steelwing - Full Speed Ahead

Happened to stumble upon this by chance. Seems appropriately badass enough to share

From listening to a couple more tracks off that album, I have say that this is the closest I've heard a modern traditional metal band come to getting the same vibe as Riot's Thundersteel. I like it!

Time for some random band pimping. As I don't think they're been talked about before/recently and considering their album is an self released job, I think it's pretty drat good.

Lorenguard - symphonic power metal that still managed to be nice and punchy plus just out and out fun. Only have one album so far, the very wordily titled "Eve of Corruption: The Days of Astasia - Part One", can check out all of the tracks on their Youtube page. If for some reason you're lacking in albums about dragons and magic swords with some guts, these guys might be for you.

I like this! These guys obviously listened to a lot of the late 90's symphonic power metal stuff like Rhapsody and have really captured that sound, except without all the awful English as a second language lyrics and unnecessary wankery.

So I decided to grab all three Keldian albums, and holy bleeding hell I can't get enough of these guys. I don't think I've ever heard such consistently awesome trio of subsequent albums before. I can't even begin to pick my favourite among these, they're just all so GOOD. The amount of good hooks and general melodic yumminess is off the loving scale.
Sure it's smooth and poppy as gently caress, but I can't bring myself to care.

These guys are amazing. They've pretty much captured all the good stuff of the last 20 years of Scandinavian power metal in their music. Outbound is, as far as I'm concerned, the best power metal album to come out last year. Also really impressed with the fact that it was completely crowd funded by them without a record companies help.

Well worth the $10 on their bandcamp

Anyone who secretly (or not so secretly) likes the first three Freedom Call albums should check out their new one, Beyond. A totally cheesy, chorus and trumpet filled return to form.

I'm going to see Alestorm on Saturday at El Corazon in Seattle. Should be a sweaty and nerdy good time. Those guys put on a pretty good show from what I hear. Plus their new album is pretty much peak pirate metal, IMHO.

Alestorm have never been good, but their latest album was even worse than usual.

Have fun.

Someone piss in your cornflakes? Alestorm is not meant to be taken serious at all. Even the band knows it's a silly gimmick, I'll wear my "grim and dark and evil" Darkthrone shirt though. Maybe that will balance out all the fun, because it's not like Fenriz enjoys a wide variety of genres of music or anything.

Alestorm was a blast live. gently caress the haters. Went with my black metal obsessed friend and even she had fun without knowing anything about the bands. The venue was packed and it was great to see people from 10 to 50 having such a fun time. Lots of energy and a decent mosh pit. Seeing a few hundred people singing along to a song about a famous 18th century naval battle was one of the many high lights of the night. Whatever people's opinion are on the subject matter and aesthetic of the band are, I thought it was exactly what a metal show should be.

Thanks to whoever posted Merging Flare, they're really scratching that 90's euro power metal itch. You can only listen to Somewhere out in Space so many times.

Blind Guardian is coming to my area (Seattle) next month. Not excited about the new album at all, but I've been a huge fan since '98 so I figure I should go just to finally check it off the bucket list. Anyone see them recently?

Check out Merging Flare, they have one album out and it's total Gamma Ray/90's power metal worship of the best kind.

Finally broke down and got the new Gloryhammer.
Being a big Alestorm fan I have no idea why it took me so long to get into these guys. Are they serious? Is it all a big joke? Who cares it's awesome.

I'm unashamedly enjoying the new Battle Beast album. It's like a campier Sabaton.

Same. It's concise and cheesy and fun. Bastard Son of Odin is my favorite track so far.

Battle Beast is opening for Sabaton on their US tour this April and May, and I'm probably more excited to see them then Sabaton.

On the exact opposite end of the metal spectrum, the new Keldian album is out now, and while the first single was merely okay, the album has some insanely good poo poo on it.

This slaps and is extremely my kind of cheese. Reminds me of early 2000s euro power metal like Steel Attack or Human Fortress. Even has a track featuring Ravenous, another awesome band that Nordick originally posted about.
