The new Job for a Cowboy is really good. But if you don't like prominent fretless bass it won't be for you. (it's extremely in my wheelhouse tho)

Hell yeah. I get chills every time Fjällets Mäktiga Mur comes on my playlist and Mr V’s singing/growling “till fjälls” in the background during the chorus.

Bonus if the randomizer puts Till Fjälls as the next song.

I got into them when I was in high school and I still go back to Odemarkens Son and Cosmic Genesis regularly. I can't understand a lick of Swedish, but the vocal melodies and songwriting always had me singing along. One of the most unique groups I've listened to.

Honest to god, the worst Iron Maiden chorus out of all of them.

I've been listening to Absu lately, and the band feels like it's up it's own rear end with these song titles and lyrics. But the music is pretty good imo.

Has anyone ever caught how much Messiah Marcolin from Candlemass sounds like Rick James in vibrato mode? I was listening to Street Songs this week and had to do a double take

I saw them on this same tour. It was 2008 or 2009 right? I remember somebody crowdsurfed and got thrown against the stage comically. Mikael corpsed and they had to keep playing mellotron until he regained composure. This was like immediately after he told a story about the dangers of crowdsurfing.

Edit: also lol

vektor got a lot of mileage out of tuning to f and writing weirder stuff but i never found them very memorable

Their first two albums were probably their best. But the third they got way too serious about the "progressive" side of the songwriting and it felt like watered down Pink Floyd interludes with thrash riffs.

I personally think Images and Words and Awake are their best albums from a songwriting standpoint. I think it's the Kevin Moore lyrics and keyboards that really add to it for me. Rudess tends to solo to excess and I think Moore had a more reserved style that fit better with the music.

Been working through Scar Symmetry's albums post-vocalist change, and they still have some great songs.
