Didn't think she'd be working with any Nightwish members ever again.

Well, technically speaking she isn't, since Marko left the band three years ago. :v:
Also, lotsa water flows under a bridge in 18 years.

Mostly I'm just glad to hear more stuff from Marko, his previous solo album loving slaps and this song is real good too.

Norwegian Reggaeton is pretty good, everything else I've heard from Nanowar of Steel has been aggressively unfunny.

^ Hell yeah Eternity's End slaps.

Also a periodical shoutout to Iron Savior for remaining a dependably solid workhorse of the genre

EDIT: Actually, I've listened to this song several times before but somehow it's just now hitting me that it's more than solid, it's an absolute loving banger.

Even has a track featuring Ravenous, another awesome band that Nordick originally posted about.

Well I mean, Rav from Ravenous is the singer for Glyph as well. And the rest of the guys in Glyph are from Greyhawk and Gatekeeper.

But anyways yeah, it's a good-rear end album.

New album from Hiraes is some really good melodeath. Not totally unlike Arch Enemy if they hadn't turned all lame.

Loads of cool riffs and hooks, all guitar driven without any twinkly keyboard fluff (not that I dislike that stuff, but this is a refreshing change).

Big time, but good for him. The guy keeps on trucking, got his poo poo done. Even if it took a sauna, helipad, 20 years, 50GB of RAM, a 500-piece orchestra, and the population of Iceland as a choir, he stuck with it. Also, I love his infomercials. Hopefully the TIME PACKAGE is a success.

He's also released a couple tracks from the collection of old demos included in the PACKAGE.

Sounds very very Ensiferum, which makes sense considering he wrote it around 2000 according to the description

Yeah the songwriting's pretty folky even if it doesn't have random fiddles and accordions going off.

Can we get a fun metal beef between bands where they write songs about how they would kill other bands? I want to see Disgorge vs Disgorge. Some nerd rear end power metal bands slaying some dork rear end other power metal band with their enchanted longblades. Cannibal Corpse vs anyone is really what I want to hear.

Turisas, a heavily Viking themed band, have a song "Hunting Pirates" on their album Stand Up and Fight.

The title track of Alestorm's album Back Through Time is about pirates traveling back in time to kill vikings.

Both albums came out in 2011, iirc some time after the bands had toured together for a bit.

Coincidence? You tell me.

Also I miss Turisas and hope they make new music again. The Varangian Way is one of my favorite albums and as far as concept albums go was pretty cool.

Oh dude I miss Turisas so loving much, but sadly, far as I know, they just silently called it quits sometime during the quarantine years. :( All their social media accounts are gone and Metal Archives shows their status as "Split-up". Someone who's actually in the european metal industry also told me Turisas is "totally doneso". I didn't ask for elaboration.

Who knows, maybe the band have just purposefully gone completely dark for years in order to pull somekinda "triumphant return" stunt at some point. But I wouldn't hold out hope.

gently caress I'm sad now. Also gently caress all the haters, Turisas 2013 ruled. If you disagree, suck my dick.

I'm still in sad mode, so I'll also point out the tragedy of Crimfall only ever putting out three albums. At least they were all great, and they even ended on their best one, but still.

^ That's the closing track on their last album, so it's kind of a capstone on their whole career, which makes it hit me all the harder. Incredible track.

Oh yeah also, the new Unleash the Archers album is out now.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xx5Le0L7rOs

The three first singles were kinda slow burners for me, I liked them but wasn't super impressed right away. This last single won me over almost immediately, it's a very good mid-tempo* cruncher. (*: until, suddenly, blastbeat)

The album proper has been very good so far. I was a bit concerned if it was gonna have any proper power metal bangers. There have, in fact, been several. There is also an extremely Jim Steinman-esque seven-and-a-half minute power ballad.
