A Celebration of Guilt is easily the best melodeath album ever made. Also check out Vale of Pnath's Prodigal Empire and Gorod's Process of a New Decline.

apophenium posted:Trying to develop my death metal tastes some, so I come to you guys for recommendations. I enjoyed the new Artificial Brain record, but what I really like is Disma's album Towards the Megalith. I didn't go for Gorguts' latest too much, though it had some good songs. I'd like something not super technical, but still varied in tempos and stuff. Generally I'd prefer to listen to more recent stuff, but if there are some essential classics I'd be fine with that. Never heard of Disma but that album is good and reminds me of Cosmic Atrophy a little. If you can enjoy some melody and lots of notes the new Unhuman is my favorite thing in a while. Those are recent, but also check out Disincarnate's Dreams of the Carrion Kind.

I've listened to some of the new Ne Obliviscaris streaming tracks a couple times now, having gone back after reading positive things about it to see if it will click with me but it just doesn't. They're obviously great musicians that have put a lot of time and thought into their work. Lots of well-arranged layers, some effective counterpoint, but none of it grabs me. I also think it would be better entirely stripped of the clean vocals and that the violin generally doesn't add much to the compositions. Mostly it just makes me feel impatient. I hate to write a bunch of words just to poo poo on something that the artists presumably put their heart into but I'm stuck wondering if I'm all alone here?

Gamma Nerd posted:Jute Gyte Jute Gyte's Bandcamp posted:The pitch content that opens “Woodcutter” is a microtonal extension of the opening theme of Brahms' first piano quartet, though it's not easy (or necessary) to hear the source in the final arrangement. The guitars play transformations of this material created through standard serial operations and also by winding or spiraling through a complete or partial array as if it were a labyrinth, a technique of Ursula Mamlok's described in Straus's Twelve-Tone Music in America. Powerful words for what sounds like the TFC Happy Birthday Song being played on a tape deck whose batteries are about to bite the dust
