I like a nice raspy bass, like in the band Overkill. Motorhead would be a good band to hear bass in, though that may be cheating.

Here's some Overkill, easier to notice the bass with it's raspy tone.

Good ol' thrash. Recently watched Rat Skates: Born in the Basement, a well done low budget doc by the original Overkill drummer. Was cool seeing them talk about how them and Slayer both used to look like vampires, and how they'd play punk covers and such before thrash metal existed.

Also really enjoyed I Am Thor and Anvil - The Story of Anvil. Gotta love Canadian metal, and that underground unpretentious spirit. And a bit of nuttiness doesn't hurt. Decline of Western Civilization: The Metal Years is also really watchable. I also appreciated the Lemmy content in several of these. Always looking for a good rock doc.

Here's some Seikima-II, some demons from hell. Singer (Demon) was in Godzilla vs Biollante. You know how it is.

There's that, plus just everything the writer Snyder has done in years is baffling. And The "Batman who laughs" is a ripoff of Judge Death, that's a crime too. He's had several evil alternate versions of Bruce Wayne revealed as key villains. The writing is just a most odious crime.

For multimedia licensed albums that do it right, I gotta give respect to Megadeth's Duke Nukem cover. And anything Blue Oyster Cult did for a B-movie, Bad Channels sure was elevated by their original music.

So I've listened to this song about a zillion times in recent days. And this video features King Diamond's dog. ™ Something about Diamond, the songs are just addictive. The riffs are really catchy, and something is cool about the structure, quite a journey for four or five minutes. Prior to this I was listening to Sleepless Nights a million times.

When that triumphant unexpectedly arena rock riff comes in, I can't even say how much it warms my soul. Something about it just rules. And this late 80s and 90s stuff they did is such a unique mix of smoothness and evil, some songs even have a hint of that 90s feel that Halford's Fight had. Long story short, I forgot Diamond was ruling as usual in that decade.

Any recommendations for jawdropping catchy riffs for the Judas Priest / Mercyful Fate / etc enthusiast? I guess more rock 'n roll influence in the mix?

Nice, thanks for the riffs! No doubt that Running Wild and Transformers the movie theme rock hard.

And I love J-rock/metal of the 80s and whatnot, big Seikima-II and Make-Up fan etc. Always in the mood for that scene. That Hideaki riffage is sweet for sure. With some good keyboard in the mix too, like a Rainbow in the Dark, always nice.

Thor is at it again! Man he's prolific. This song is a tribute to a Swedish theme park music fest no less.

Sure rules hard. Agreed Ozzy's book is great. Lemmy's White Line Fever and the book Lemmy by Mick Wall are great too. Halford's is cool too, did the audio version.

Cool to hear the Dio book is good too. Speaking of Iommi, I love how he comes across as the coolest man who ever lived in Ozzy's book, compared to Ozzy's self deprecating appraisal. Gives a lot of due credit which is nice to see.

Gotta love BG. My first concert in High School was them with Symphony X, and I've seen Blind Guardian a couple more times in recent years too. Valhalla! I gotta listen to that new album.

Just listened to the Metallica album.

Whole lots of "when are they gonna get to the fireworks factory" on this album. Pretty disappointing.

*remembers Overkill has a new album and instantly smiles*

Also, on a random tangent, just remembered how much this song and how much this album rules

Absolutely! Love WASP and Overkill, I've seen Overkill twice. A green logo is great. I liked the Rat Skates Overkill documentary too. Sounds like the wild west being in an early thrash band.

My favorite album this year was probably Running Wild's Pile of Skulls.

That always rules for sure!

Speaking of European goth and Peter Steele style stuff, I am a big big fan of The 69 Eyes. Also a lot of sleaze rock influence in there, but yeah these guys are so awesome. Saw them live a few years ago, just got tickets to see them again, it is always a nice surprise which European bands will show up in my Boston area.

I also love Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Blind Guardian, wonderful bands folks! I saw all three of them live a time or two or three, yes indeed, gonna see Priest again in a couple months!

On the ever wacky subject of ranking, I also like Judas Priest even better than Maiden, I think Priest should be worshiped like the metal gods they are. They are almost too good, and it's really a miracle that we have Judas Priest in our lives.

Also, don't forget to see your Priest on tour now! Judas Priest is hitting my town soon too, second time for me, bless them.
