thematically, now playing the latest Artery Eruption

Another disc that will be in my top 10 this year. Super ignorant slam, and early AE's best record.

Refuse / Resist is a total banger but to me, Max sounds like a metal Elmer Fudd on Roots ("Woots buddy woots"). Chaos A.D. is the last Sepultura I enjoyed. However, I saw Sepultura live in 1996 and they sounded pretty sweet, so I get the appeal of the post Chaos era

Making Slam is easy, making good Slam is actually really difficult. I've been working on my stuff for a long time, the only thing I am truly happy with are my vocals. Writing music is hard.

I also have a really intense job, so it's hard to find free time to work on music

That new Abominable Putridity track is super sick. Angel is easily one of the best current death metal vocalists. Love his throaty purr.

Seriously, that second Arseny / Infectious Jelqing split is so good. Can't believe I slept on this release until a few days ago. And the CDs are sold out, so my collection will remain incomplete.

plus like Nookie and Break Stuff twice (first and last song, it was weird).

I hate it so much when bands do this. Awhile back I went to a show with my brother-in-law in an attempt to bond with each other, and saw decidedly unmetal Semisonic. They played Closing Time, their only hit song, two times. In a row. Just embarrassing.

Artwork on some of these is not very work safe.

Defamatory Fetish
https://coldironrecords.bandcamp.com/album/psychopathic-sadism
Indonesian Brutal Death / Slam. Nothing original at all, but who cares, it's really good and the guttural crocodile vocals are top notch.

Child Cemetery
https://necroticmeatgrinderrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/child-cemetery-rebirthed-revived-rekilled
This is a great slam record, much much better than their earlier releases.

Endless Outrage
https://brutalmind.bandcamp.com/album/in-heaven-of-fear
Laos / Russian Slam, just absolutely gross and awesome.

Iron Front
https://ironfront.bandcamp.com/album/hooked
Fat and grimey Death Metal, sounds like it was recorded in a storage closet. Rules.

I think Dehumanizer is the best Dio Sabbath record. The others are good, but Dehumanizer has killer song after killer song. It's perfect.

Unleash the Archers has been bad for many albums now. If you want a current metal band with soaring vocals performed by a woman, listen to Tower instead:

Best Maiden for me is Piece of Mind. It was my first Maiden that I owned, so I was always going to choose that one as it shaped my early metal tastes. The opening drum fill that starts out Where Eagles Dare and I was already sold on the band. Seventh Son is a pretty close second. I remember begging my mom to buy me the tape when I saw it for sale at Target when it originally came out. I was about 10, the cover art was the coolest thing I had ever seen at that point. Title track is god tier Maiden for me. Also love Killers and the S/T. Nice and gritty sounding to my ears. But for the most part, I think Maiden had a pretty great discography until maybe the second Blaze disc (which is pretty okay - I rarely revisit it though)

For me, best 70s Priest is Stained Class. Exciter is one of the best metal songs period. Sad Wings of Destiny has great songs as well. The album as a whole is pretty good but nothing compared to Stained Class, Killing Addiction / Hellbent or Sin After Sin. My favorite 80s Priest is Defenders of the Faith. Has the appeal of British Steel and Screaming for Vengeance with songs that are more aggressive. Painkiller is obviously top tier Priest and easily one of the best heavy metal albums of all time. The only Priest records I don't like that much are Ram It Down, Turbo and while Ripper Owens is a great vocalist, I didn't really care for those two albums he was on after Halford left.

Point of Entry also has Hot Rockin' which is metal royalty in my book.

I love Judas Priest. They're my favorite classic metal band. Even their worst song, which is Parental Guidance and no one can argue with me about that, is still better than the majority of what's out there in that genre.

Seriously, what happened to Barnes? He was one of the sickest vocalists ever. On Tomb he had some of the grossest gutturals I had ever heard at the time. Same with Butchered and even the first few Six Feet Under records. Those records and the vocals still sound great. The Scooby Doo yelps he's doing now are unlistenable. The laziest death metal vocals.

What's the best Cradle of Filth album to start out with? Something has snapped in my brain and I'm suddenly a fan of Dani Filth's vocals.

No one is going to agree with me but I only really like The Principle of Evil Made Flesh, Vempire and Bitter Suites to Succubi. The rest never really did much for me. Yet I kept buying them.

New Brodequin owns. The Gregorian chants peppered throughout create a nice atmosphere. I don't know if the production is actually "good" but it works with the band's sound perfectly. Will be in my top 10 easily and it's probably my favorite so far of the recent releases by older bands. The guys in Brodequin are also super cool and their distro ships extremely fast.

If I were to make a list of top 90s death metal records, this one is in my top 5 if not top 3. Cover art is absolutely amazing. If I were into tatts instead of being a weak wimp I would have this art on me.

New Deicide is pretty excellent. The bass sounds especially awesome. Their entire discography in general has been pretty relatable. Shame about the artwork on the new record though.
