Now Sharon is apparently saying she's "not in a position to fire anybody", "I manage my husband not black sabbath". I'm saying that's a clever way to dance around her demanding more for Ozzy than a 25% split among the four of them, and Bill Ward is getting the smallest share.

Because they are pretty much the only worthwhile innovative death metal band any more, not counting bands influenced by them or by Deathspell Omega of course. Mr. Avoider seems to love the old school and the bands which revive it, which is nice and all, but hasn't metal moved beyond this yet? Metal needs to move forward, to change its sound. Not rehash the same bloody thing over and over again like it has been doing.

So when I see a new trend actually doing new things, it is pleasing to my ears most of the time. Mr. Avoider seems to hate Neige and would rather listen to The Jesus and Mary Chain, which is fine and all, I love Psychocandy myself, but I still like Neige's take on it, since it is actually something different in this context and well, who doesn't like Audrey's vocals?

I'm rambling though, you guys hate Deathspell Omega, and Portal, I get it. It is unfortunate that you do, you are welcome to like what you like, but so am I.

I don't see how you came to that conclusion... looks more like the evidence cited points to them being a death metal band... Death metal guitar, with proggy flourishes... also I'd say it is more like Seven Churches than anything...

I mean, just listen... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6FZBIZ0Xbs http://youtu.be/6qGFTnLnIgw?t=1m34s

Metal doesn't NEED to do poo poo. Clearly millions of people enjoy the way it's been. Is it getting stale? Sure, all forms of music get boring decades later. But changing for the sake of changing is pathetic.

I get the impression you care way more about separating yourself from "old timers" just because it's old. But if the old poo poo wasn't good you wouldn't have people still listening to it, kids wouldn't still be turned on by it.

Listen to what you want but don't think for a second your opinion extends beyond your nose. It seems like the only thing on your musical agenda is being different from anyone over 30.

And Alcest is the most boring, laughable "black metal" band EVER. They're as black metal as a girlscout troop meeting.

I don't know how prevalent this is outside the US, but larger venues here are now extorting money from shows by demanding cuts of merch sales, keeping ticket money up to a certain number ("the first 100 tickets are ours, the rest you get a percentage of"). Some venues won't book bands if they think they won't make enough from the bar sales.

The visa process is outrageous but almost everyone involved in live shows is contributing to the situation.

Aww the Rammstein thread seems to have slipped into oblivion. Seeing them on Saturday, psyched beyond all belief.

I am new to metal. Very new. Entry-level, minimum wage new. I enjoy things in languages I do not or barely speak, it helps me to get them a little better. (German/Swedish are favourites) Aside from Rammstein which I stumbled upon years ago thanks to my strange 90 year old german professor, I've recently been swimming around in Opeth, Dimmu Borgir and Manowar. I'm finding myself more attracted to the grand, orchestral songs with less cookie monster vocals. I can enjoy female vocals to the extent of Nightwish but that's kind of pushing it. Anyone got any suggestions? I have pretty broad music tastes and want to explore metal a little further.

If you like Rammstein you might like Samael. Passage is probably the album you'd like as a starter, granted I haven't listened to Rammstein since that album with DuHaust on it back in the 90s so I'm basing Samael totally on that one album. If you like Passage, go backwards, not forwards into their catalog.

Part of the reason I want to see Watain is the theatrics, so I hope they're there too.

Unless you're west of 95 already, the drive sucks. The place almost always oversells tickets so the place is mobbed. Depending on the night of the week they also end shows fairly early so they can still bring in the dance club dildos. Every so often you see a shiny shirt or business casual tool, but the look of "I made a mistake" on their face is fun.

You'll either have a pretty drat good show if they don't pack the place, or it'll be a reason you never want to go back unless it's an unmissable show, which is where I'm at with that place.

The part that truly pisses me off about all this is all the "hey it ain't me brah" shrugs everyone is doing. It seems really loving clear someone doesn't want him there and the other two lack the balls to stand up for him.

Who it could be I don't know. Iommi's book made it sound like Bill was the guy nobody could hate. I've only ever heard that Bill was Ozzy's only real friend in the band, pre and post firing. (Sharon is a different story and is still my suspect)
