Volumes 2 and 3 of that hardcover series have neared or passed $100 before. The omnibus isn't cheap either (but someone found an amazon fish that implied it was getting reprinted, didn't they?)

It is no fish (hopefully)

It’s interesting to note that the previous omnibus housed an incredible 1096 pages… and the reprint includes even more material, weighing in at a gigantic 1120 pages!

Ah, you're right! Thanks, still wondering about the DC trades though.

Of course they will have the new logo and thats all it is... a logo. I'm sure we all shat over the last logo DC released in 2005 or whenever it came out. The internet rage will subside eventually and we will get down to reading comics again until the next logo change.

Did the books the trade editions really have a different logo on the spine prior to 2005, yes it's a logo but it's not just a logo. It represents the company, it's one of the first perceptions people get of them. It's the reason good logos are important. I'm not even judging the logo I just wanted all my Grant Morrison Batman Hardcovers to have the same logo on the spine.

You constantly come in this thread as some sort of sage of reason, and wisdom that nobody else sees. Yet you usually miss the point completely.

Maybe you are the one missing the point and getting too worked up over a logo or matching spines? DC and Marvel don't care about how the spines look. Case in point, after 189 Marvel Masterworks HCs Marvel decides to change the design (they changed it on all books not just MMW) throwing the OCD folks into fits. Who knows, maybe GMo goes on to write Batman for another 5 years and your current logo books look stupid next to the 12 new logo books.

If it seriously impacts your life that badly, scan the dustjacket, photoshop the old logo in and go to Kinkos and print it out. It will cost you $5 and you can be happy.

Edited that for you as there is zero hope of ever achieving this sigh....

Recent examples

GLC - switched from TPBs to HCs only
Justice League 80s series - 4 hardcovers, now two softcovers
Marvel - well they switched their logo / branding so good luck matching anything ongoing
DC - ""
EC Archives - changed publisher, new logo

Fantagraphics seems reasonably safe against this sillyness but time will tell.

My comic book guy got a few of those and I looked at them (well, looked at the cover I wasn't going to make him take the plastic off) and they are so nice. While they certainly wouldn't be worth 150 dollars to me, personally, I could see them easily being worth that to an artist or collector.

It is insanely amazing. Woody is such a great artist. I hope they can put one of these out for all the EC artists as Ganes was quite good at saving the artwork.

I only paid $125 for it in Canada and I consider it a steal. If anyone wants this act fast as I suspect it will be sold out in a matter of days. IDW really limits the number of copies of these books.

Can't wait for the Will Eisner Spirit Artists Edition as well around June.

Its a must purchase. The art is amazing and tons of detail on the history of DC that we are losing too fast as the golden age creators die. Note based on an Amazon fish, the following is coming out.

Expanded from the Eisner Award - winning XL book, "75 Years of DC Comics", this new series hits the shelf at a reader friendly size with essays updated by author Paul Levitz and over 500 new images across five volumes. Thousands of covers and interiors, original illustrations, photographs, film stills, and collectibles have been reproduced using the latest technology to bring the story lines, the characters, and their creators to vibrant life, making this an invaluable reference for comics fans.

DC is frustrating because they can do something beautiful like the Starman Omnibus series but then they poo poo things up big time like JLI four HCs, switch to TPBs for two more volumes and now nothing. Suicide Squad got solicited multiple times in multiple formats, one TPB and that's it.

Archives are a work of art though. I will keep buying them forever!

The Silver Age of DC Comics
by Paul Levitz (Hardcover)
CDN$ 64.99CDN$ 51.99

With super heroes nearly extinct at the start of the 1950s, DC Comics reignited the fire that would make them central to modern popular culture by infusing them with science fiction elements. To circumvent the limitations of the self-censoring Comics Code Authority, DC's writers and editors spun ever-more fantastic tales, bringing super heroes and Bob Hope alike into the realm of sci-fi. DC Comics: The Silver Age chronicles the transformation, with comics' first-ever "reboot" of Golden Age greats the Flash, Green Lantern, and Hawkman; as well as the increasingly wacky shenanigans of Batman, who was transformed into the reluctant spokesman for the camp sensibility of the ’60s with a hit TV series that immortalized the Dark Knight as a pop culture icon for generations to come. Plus a new exclusive interview with Deadman/Green Lantern/Batman artist Neal Adams!

About the series: TASCHEN's series on DC Comics explores the origins of comics’ most enduring legends and the behind-the-scenes stories of the men who created them, era by era. Expanded from the Eisner Award–winning XL book, 75 Years of DC Comics, this new series hits the shelf at a reader friendly size with essays updated by author Paul Levitz and over 500 new images across five volumes. Thousands of covers and interiors, original illustrations, photographs, film stills, and collectibles have been reproduced using the latest technology to bring the story lines, the characters, and their creators to vibrant life, making this an invaluable reference for comics fans.
