ZeroDays posted:It's probably because Rogan was having to do ALL the legwork. I felt Shane Smith couldn't be hosed (which, given his physical state, isn't surprising) and that every conversation attempt from Rogan was met with something non-committal that couldn't really be taken anywhere, which left Rogan thrashing about and having to fill the empty space. The "yeahs" and "I don't know mans" were clearly an "I like you and I like your podcast, but gently caress your childish conspiracy theories when I'm trying to talk about real problems in the world." Rogan derailed Shane Smith quite a bit with his usual conspiracy/stoner philosophy garbage. With any other guest it is annoying but mostly tolerable, but when Shane Smith is the guest it's infuriating.

Peter North posted:what did everyone think of the Jamie Kilstein episode? SA is a real hotbed for people who feel strongly about social justice stuff, and they got into a pretty huge shitfit over Daniel Tosh, rape jokes, and what have you. Even though Rogan perhaps was being lovely with his point of view, Jamie Kilstein could not have possibly argued his points any worse. Jamie Kilstein came off as an effete, milquetoast idiot. I only listed to an hour and a half of the podcast, but whenever Rogan attacked Kilstein's points, Kilstein simply gave up and agreed with Joe. Use of a lethal weapon on a guy who disrupts a baseball game? Sure, why not if Joe says so. The mentally challenged should be lifting weights? Well, that's Joe's opinion, so I guess it's mine too! Oh Joe, you're not a rich guy. You're totally not a 1%er. 1%ers are like billionaires! SSJ2 Goku Wilders posted:Kilstein's bitten his tongue on many an occasion throughout the podcast so far, and I'm sure it won't be the last, as I continue to listen. If his arguments aren't resonating well, it's probably because he has to contain himself from ripping his hair out. Jesus Christ your post in general, but this specifically. His arguments aren't resonating well because he's loving stupid. He couldn't even counter a basic "welfare queen" argument. NewtGoongrich fucked around with this message at 04:22 on Aug 16, 2012 |

Cromulent posted:I also can't stand Rogan's phony "I love that guy" like with Jamie Kilstein, when he clearly doesn't like him at all. He does it with Dr. Drew a lot, where he'll trash the poo poo out of him, but then say "I mean I love Dr. Drew, but..." Yeah, sure sounds like you "love" Dr. Drew. Rogan likes to pretend that he gets along with and respects everybody (except Carlos Mencia). I'm sure in his mind he thinks this makes him some sort of aloof Zen master.

I finally got around to listening to that entire Kilstein episode and I can now firmly say that Kilstein is a complete idiot. Kilstein made rape jokes while talking about how rape jokes reinforce rape culture and then denied that contributing to rape culture contributes to rape, which was his entire argument against what Tosh said. Also, Rogan's points about Kilstein challenging that right wing journalist to a duel were surprisingly good. I don't know what Kilstein thought he was accomplishing by picking a fight with a right wing journalist. He admitted he only did it because he knew Goldberg would not fight back and then he goes on to say how he could easily have beat up Goldberg. Anyway, later in the show Kilstein talked about some redneck threatening to beat him up over his opinions on the Iraq/Afghanistan war. Suddenly internet tough guy Jamie Kilstein decides that using violence to shut up someone who has different political beliefs is totally unacceptable.

Xguard86 posted:I think sasquatch is not a matter of fact for Joe but desire. A bipedal ape man stalking the northwest is his santa claus. He seems to really want to believe all sorts of crazy conspiracy theories/pseudoscientific poo poo. What I like about him is that unlike hardcore conspiracy theorists/junk science advocates he can be persuaded. Also, his constant admissions that he's probably an idiot for believing the things he does are remarkably self-aware.

I had no idea who Mac Danzig was prior to listening to the podcast, but I can now say with a great degree of certainty that he's a douchebag.

I just saw a picture of Redban for the first time. He was much more charming when I pictured him as a dorky 20 something
