Alright, I'm going to be the jerk I guess. As much as I love this series, I'm not very excited about this release. I'm curious if anyone else feels the same way.

The demo showed a much improved cockpit mode and the new physics system is sweet, but where is the content? There's really only four new tracks (be honest with yourself, the Top Gear track is a gimmick that will get old pretty quickly). While the graphics have improved, they are drowned out by overdone contrast and lighting effects. It's like Forza 3 with the ENB-Series shader mod applied to it.

It has a distinct recycled feeling that's worse than the move from GT3 to GT4 for those of you who remember that. I know I'll get this game eventually, but I have a feeling I'll burn out on it pretty quickly from all the similarities to its predecessor.

Aside from more tacks, what additional content could you want? It's a racing sim, Forza 3 had cars that you race, Forza 4 has cars that you race. The only thing you can really add would be more cars, better graphics, better physics, better audio, better way to engage the player, etc that Forza 4 has provided. Are you really poo pooing over just the number of tracks and your opinion that there is too much contrast in a snow environment?

edit: for that matter, I suspect that the few people who are disapointed in the graphics should set up the settings on their TV's cause it looks god drat beautiful on my end.
Bathurst, a more accurate Nurburgring (GT5, even with all of its horrible problems, still wins here), and maybe a couple remakes of fan favorites missing since Forza 1. There really were fantasy tracks just a fun as Maple Valley, believe it or not!

Regarding the graphics, this is the first game where I've had to change my Xbox video settings from Expanded to Limited. The game crushes blacks and whites and has a really slow HDR transition, like worse than that one Half-life 2 tech demo. Check out the tunnel in the demo for example.

edit: Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of this series, but I can't ignore the overwhelming feeling of sameness.

Don't forget the new gameplay additions

- Rivals mode - Awesome because it's like a big, organized "let's see who's the fastest" challenge which is what a lot of us end up doing anyway
- World tour - Cool that the difficult adjust around you automatically, good for credit harvesting I guess?
- Manufaturer's Alliance - I think this will keep the game fresh so you don't have to grind and grind to get credits to buy all the different cars and mod them out.
I like the rivals mode, good point. But leveling manufacturers instead of cars isn't really revolutionary and it devalues the in-game currency. I do like that I can eventually just focus on buying more cars, though.

The disc space is not the issue here, development time is - isn't the second DVD like 2GB. Granted HDD space might be a problem for the Arcade and 20 gig models.
This reminds me, I would have gladly waited for a later release for a few more tracks and cars. There is already an over saturation of holiday rush games anyway.

I really have no problems with the contrast at all. It seems appropriate for a high-altitude, sunny day track in a snowy environment. Are you sure your TV/monitor is properly calibrated?
Yeah, trust me, I have a movie mode calibrated with Digital Video Essentials and a separate custom mode for a bit more contrast and saturation. I'm a terrible person that reads AVS Forum occasionally. There have been a lot of complaints about the lighting in the game.

lots of stuff
You know, I had temporarily forgotten about the Porsche license, that does hurt a lot. I know I can't blame Turn 10 for that though. And I agree, the launch day DLC, along with the DLC season pass, seems a bit aggressive this time around.

I think you are literaly only the second person to address such lighting concerns around these parts.
There is a really strange and scary world outside of Something Awful that also discusses racing games.

So now your clipping 0-15 and 236-255, good job I guess
Yeah, I guess that's a bit ironic. But it ups the brightness significantly.
