I got a Dyson for $180 off of craigslist. They, amazingly, hold their resale value pretty well because the parts are readily available and they're pretty solid anyway.

If you can't find a DC 14 or DC 17 on craigslist, then the Shark would prob be ok. It's based upon the same idea, just uses double the number of tubes to generate the same effect (to not infringe on Dyson's patents).

Bagless is pretty sweet. I've used both types. Dysons are a bit more robust but the Sharks are fine.
