I'm so disgusted with the Mit Hamine crew. I know this isn't the first time a group of angry kids have attacked the show, but it's just so gross this time around.

NESguerilla posted:I think they jumped the shark on Tuesday. I thought the whole thing was entertaining for a while but they are just being irritating trolls now. It was weird, because it sounded like they genuinely flustered Tom a bit by the end of the show. It's just amazing to me that these guys are so pissed off that they'd threaten a radio DJ in his 40's who's in terrible physical pain. It's so creepy.

Groucho Marxist posted:75 bucks paid over a year really isn't much at all. Or just kick in $10 once. It's whatever you can afford. The gesture's more important than the amount - you chip in a few bucks to show you care about the station. I've never been able to afford anywhere close to a mouse pledge or a Y3K pledge or any of that, but I just feel a little better when I chip in my little bit. It's worth it for the hours of entertainment I get each week.

A friend of mine posted, "It's like Calvin & Hobbes is ending all over again" and he was 100% on. As happy as I am for Tom, this is so, so sad.

WoG posted:I love how Wurster's taking it up a notch in these last few episodes. Instead of calling Tom a 'dink-nits' or whatever, he just goes straight to 'jackass'. The best "Wurster taking it up a notch" on record is this. It was never broadcast, so Philly Boy Roy's language got a lot more troubling: "Scharpling & Wurster present the Merge Records 20th Anniversary Roundtable Discussion!" http://www.scharplingandwurster.com/?p=194

A few Christmases ago, I released an audio archive of Tom singing songs live on the air. For easier listening, I put it up on SoundCloud. From "Wise Up" to "Celluloid Heroes," here's every spontaneous Scharpling song moment I could find back in 2010! https://soundcloud.com/asteriosk/sets/tom-sings-toms-best-tunes-from

This archive is only up to Christmas of 2010 (when I had no job and a lot of free time.) Send me MP3's of these Tom classics, and I'll get them in! asterios.kokkinos@gmail.com

I tried to update my email address with Tom's mailing list, and ended up finding this older FOT site: http://www.friendsoftom.com/enlist.shtml Which led me to this cool, 10-year old thing: http://www.angelfire.com/indie/tbsowfmu2004/

Groucho Marxist posted:Adult Swim likes to show pilots in the middle of their scheduling out of nowhere like this. I don't know if this is a pilot or not, but you should probably watch ASAP if it is. It's how they launched Aqua Teen Hunger Force. They just played it out of nowhere in the middle of the night, before Adult Swim was even a channel. I don't get Cartoon Network, but please watch it if you do!

Tom used to have a bigger cast of callers, including Matt Walsh & H. Jon Benjamin, who are both pretty huge comedians now. He gave an interview once where he said Wurster was clearly putting in more work than anyone else, so it just became the two of them. I think Tom had Andrew Earles on a few years later to promote his book.

I was also quite pleased to see, when I checked after listening, that Adrian Monk's confirmed death had already been added to his Wikipedia page. I liked Keith & The Girl. They have a humongous audience and brought Tom on to help promote the new show, and it was cool of him to return the favor. They're a lot more coarse than Tom, but it's fun to hear him play different styles.

Illinois Smith posted:hey remember when the WFMU version first got the podcast and he used to bitch weekly about how only 37 people downloaded it Yeah I think this is just one of his annual gimmicks to goose downloads and fan engagement. The higher his downloads, the more he can charge for ads. He's also using Midroll for his ads, which is part of Earwolf, so he's essentially got the best of both worlds -- he can still operate like an independent freeform, guy but use the power of Earwolf/Midroll/Scripps to sell ads.
