Never tried it the other way.

There are a couple of hashtags I read regularly and don't want to have to search each time I want to see what's going on. If there is a way, I haven't figured it out yet. This is the only reason why I still have tweetdeck installed too. But I mostly just use Plume and check Tweetdeck occasionally for a couple of saved searches.

I got Jelly Bean on my Galaxy Nexus yesterday and now my phone no longer appears as a selection on the online Google Play store. I can still get apps and app updates from the Play store app on my phone. But I actually liked the "install from pc" part of the online Play Store. Anyone know how to refresh or resync phones/devices on the store? edit: Nevermind. It appears you need to download an app from your Play app before it syncs properly with the online store after installing a new version of the OS. It gets rid of the google search bar and removes the space where it was, allowing for six apps in height on each homescreen plus the seven "favorite apps" at the bottom (when it portrait mode). It allows the homescreen to rotate on the Nexus 7 and when the screen is rotated to horizontal, the homescreens do switch to be more like the regular android tablet.

I did this right after I rooted my Nexus 7 and the change made it so quite a few apps in the play store were no longer compatible with my device. If I wanted to download the app, I had to change the DPI back and then either wait a while, or clear data from the play store app in order for me to be able to download the app. I realized the main thing I enjoyed from changing the dpi was the homescreen rotation, so I have kept my dpi at the original 213.

Jeff Goldblum posted:After recording my mom's phone data usage, it turns out the "data hog" was a program called K-9 Mail, some ad-supported freebie that my mom had installed because her Gingerbread mail client was inexplicably unable to properly handle her AOL account. So far, I've got the K-9 Mail client under my thumb with one of those data manager apps that will not allow it to function without being connected to Wi-Fi. But, I'd rather just get rid of it. I tried getting the stock mail client to work, but nobody here, at Verizon, Samsung or Google can figure out why it's happening. There must be a different version of this somewhere. I've been using K-9 since I got my first android G1 four or five years ago and I've never noticed any ads or any data hogging. It is based off the first version of "email" the non-gmail email client. Maybe it performs differently on different versions of android, but it works just fine for me on jelly bean.

ZombyWoof posted:This. K9 Mail (http://code.google.com/p/k9mail/) has zero ads, and any data hogging is due to how you have it configured. To be fair I'm not sure how sane the defaults are with regards to syncing/push though so maybe it was just bad luck. It would definitely be nice to see updates in the UI. Honestly, the only reason I still use it over the default email client is because K-9 has an easy "mark all as read" function. I get a lot of automated emails from one of my servers and like seeing the emails come in, but I don't need to actually open them regularly.

Vine is more integrated with twitter, because vine uses the Twitter Card system and all vines are visible to anyone using an official twitter app, the twitter website or tweetdeck (or any other app that uses the twitter card api). Tweetdeck removed the ability for their images to be displayed in the twitter card system, so it all just appears as a link unless you're using a third party app. edit: I'm not trying to say one is better than the other, just pointing out the differences in twitter integration.

Never would have known that because I've never used the official twitter app. Seems like twitter sure does like to limit quite a bit of functionality with their service. You actually can't blame twitter for this one. Instagram didn't want their pictures to be shown directly on twitter. They wanted the click throughs so that they would get more users on their own site. Plus Instagram is owned by facebook. But mostly, I think they didn't want to give away their images for free.

My wife was sort of forced to upgrade yesterday to a Galaxy S4 (from a dying S2) on t-mobile. I had used the Samsung Kies software to bring her up to Jelly Bean a while back. None of her wifi passwords came over to the new phone though. I have a Nexus 7/Galaxy Nexus and have had android since the G1 and I seem to remember mine always being backed up. This is not totally an app, but it does come with an app and it appears that it would integrate with Tasker. Pressy - the Almighty Android Button! It's a new and fully funded kickstarter for a tiny little button that fits in your headphone socket. You can program what the button does and it allows you to bypass unlocking the phone to do it. So if you want to take a picture without unlocking your phone, you can simply set the pressy app for that function to occur with two button clicks and it'll work. Looks pretty neat and for between 17 and 25 bucks you can get a pressy that will work for any device running 2.3 and up.
