Did D-Motor and/or TGAUS show their version of the crossover episodes ever, or were they just on TGUK? I'd love to see both sides of the challenges.
IIRC Top Gear Australia did, they called it "From the Ashes" or something because it was used to revive the show. I believe it was the exact same as the UK episode, maybe edited for time?

Words cannot describe how disappointed I was that one of them (I would have guessed Rutledge) didn't pull a Smokey Yunick and fit a 2" fuel line to their "stock" car to increase fuel capacity.

Has it been mentioned there's a Hammond special featuring the cars of James Bond airing tonight on BBC2? Because if not, there you go. Also, it will be reaired on BBC America "on 12th November 2012 at 8:30pm".

Related: Hammond can recognize a good short joke.

I genuinely thought that when the "winning" car crested the hill as the big reveal at the end it would be a Beetle. Even by their own standards it should have been in the running, since VW certainly knew better than to make such a crappy car.

This time it wasn't even that they used a Top Gear UK challenge, they blatantly ripped off the three vehicles from the original as well.

Although I loved Rutledge's Honda, and I don't care if it makes me a bad person, I want to try building something like that someday.

No, that's a multitool.

Also, I actually believe that while the support mechanic probably did a good bit of work, Hammond actually did at least some of the real work on the car himself. Both he and May have taken up restoring old vehicles as a hobby, so they both will know at least something about doing basic repairs, welding, etc.

Or maybe the mechanic did all of the work and this was just a beauty shot. v:shobon:v

I just find it really hard to believe that in a country as big as this one they couldn't put together a cast of three people who could be a) funny, b) knowledgeable enough about cars to make useful observations and knowing jokes about them rather than "German people collect mechanical pencils or whatever", and c) willing and able to hold themselves together in a supercar for long enough to make the audience feel like driving a high-end car on a track is something to which any schmoe might aspire, instead of something only the hired professional ringer should ever be allowed to do.
There are people like that. The problem is that anyone who can do those things will occasionally say negative things about car manufacturers who advertise on the show/network, and we can't have that, now can we?
