Anyone excited for Here We Go Magic's new album? I loved his debut, but thought Pigeons was really dull. With the debut, the contrast between the very lo-fi recording and the complicated hypnotic rhythms (it sounded like everything was looped, but apparently it was all performed), and that it was all done by a single guy, gave it a very impressive yet mysterious sort of feel. Pigeons ditching all that for a more standard band and recording style removed all that, and the songs themselves seemed more like generic Canadian indie-pop than what the debut had. But still, I'm sort of excited for a new album. Nigel Goodrich is producing it, and the new song seems promising. Automata 10 Pack fucked around with this message at 03:09 on Feb 11, 2012 |

Well, there's a music video for "Today's Supernatural" now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47xbkT3calM Its about as great as it is . Avey looks like a juggalo butterfly. Also in other AC news, Applesauce is now out there in the wilderness and they're planning to stream the album on Sunday. Automata 10 Pack fucked around with this message at 06:03 on Aug 17, 2012 |

Fun fact, I registered my SA account to create a Strawberry Jam thread here. I was insta-banned for using the "Hot" tag like an idiot. When I reregistered to make another one, about seven people replied to it until it fell off the forum forever. A drat well $30 spent. edit: VVV Okay, you persuaded me. Psychedelia-Punk outfit Deerhunter officially announced their 5th official LP, Monomania. And it's coming out May 7th. They describe the album's sound as 'nocturnal garage', and apparently Bradford Cox had two hundred and fifty songs stockpiled for the album. Which on one hand is insane, but on the other hand it's been three years since Halcyon Digest and Bradford Cox is a music making machine (and also insane.) Here's the artwork, which would fit a 'nocturnal garbage' album. Automata 10 Pack fucked around with this message at 07:10 on Mar 24, 2013 |

The new Deerhunter album is out and it's extremely good up until halfway through and then it becomes pretty inconsistent and the songs start to feel half-baked. So like all their other albums post Halcyon Digest.

the ariel pink remasters for loverboy and underground were really good considering the material they're working with. but... the bass for this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6HD6_JPOlQ feels like the audio engineers took an already good thing and precision engineered it to melt my brain into pleasure goop. i am super pumped to hear the remaster for worn copy. Imhotep posted:The new Fleet Foxes is so good, which isn’t surprising but I think he just keeps getting better and better or at least as I get older and listen to indie music less, I appreciate the style of arrangements he’s been gravitating towards and the like modern classical and art pop influences. The sort of unexpectedly overt Steve Reich style strings on ‘Cradling Mother, Cradling Woman’ are so good and that track also samples an unused Brian Wilson vocal take I guess, but it still sounds very Fleet Foxes. it's really funny how opn's garden of delete and the fake "hyper grunge" genre he made to promote it basically predicted 100gecs new opn is really good, the concept of the album sounds like his take on james ferraro's "on air", which gets me pumped up.

I listened to the new gizz and I feel like my opinion is contrasted from everyone else’s opinion of “this is an odd bunch of songs that don’t flow well.” I think the flow is fine. The hazy lo-fin aesthetic and jammier procession melds the stylistically different songs together much better than Gumboot Soup. My issue is that a lot of the styles feel a little too recycled now and I don’t know yet if I’d rather just listen to their other albums. But I gotta say, the difference between them making an album in a studio together compared to recording individually in their own homes (like they did on the clunky performances of KG and LW) is night and day. The chemistry is real good, especially on the dripping tap. Automata 10 Pack fucked around with this message at 19:46 on Apr 23, 2022 |

So after listening to the album a bunch: the new king gizzard album… is a good king gizzard album. better than the sum of its parts, which shouldn’t be the case for a collection of unused tracks, but they must’ve put a lot of work into incorporating all the material into this hazy, sometimes jammy, sometimes jazzy experience and it’s real nice time. It’s like a better written, more ambitious I’m In Your Mind Fuzz.

I have to say OPN’s production on is awesome. It does feel very 90s without sounding dated or copying something directly. Like it’s capturing the spirit without being a homage. Last time I had this impression was with Deerhunter’s Microcastle. The mixing could be better though? Maybe it’s my AirPods starting to fail but it does feel a little… Compressed or mid-heavy or whatever. Still though, c’mon Lopatin, do more indie rock.
