Saw pavement earlier this month and they were good. Brought out Kurt vile for Loretta’s scars. I’m not a big Kurt vile fan, but now I’ve seen pavement and yo la tengo bring him up on stage, so 90s indie bands must love him

Yea that's kind of my take on it.It's not bad, and I don't dislike it, but it doesn't really grab me either. Pitchfork's 6.5 is pretty spot on, and even a little high by their standards

By the way, he was originally supposed to sing We Sink on their first LP. Here's a BBC Radio 1 session where he's singing the lead: was going to post this. I think I still might give the edge to their first album, but screen violence is a close second.

I've spun it a couple of times and I think the new pornographers record is pretty solid. Seems like they're going for a bit of an AM Gold vibe. I also like the new Hold Steady. I don't think either band has put out a bad record As for Boy Genius...my record hasn't come in yet, so I haven't listened yet.

saw charly bliss last night. First time I've seen them and they killed it. Maybe because it was their first show in a while, but they fired on all cylinders. Played a couple of new songs too that were pretty good.

Scored pre-sale tickets to the Japanese Breakfast/Hop Along Halloween show. I am disappointed it's at the Fillmore, and not Union Transfer, but what can you do. Edit and boygenius finally announced a Philly date! And boygenius ticket acquired. Slowdive and boygenius back to back. Going to be a good concert weekend. This year, I've really dug: caroline polachek, boygenius, the national, hold steady, new pornographers, carly rae jepsen, pj harvey, joanna sternberg , bell witch and wednesday. Still have Slowdive, blonde redhead, and mitski to look forward to. I also haven't gotten around to feist or yo la tengo yet which I've heard good things about. Pretty solid year for me, though a little weak on hip-hop. But I'm pretty out of touch on hip hop. I think tyler the creator, and young thug have new records out this year, and lil yachty did a prog album, but have yet to listen to any of them
