I don’t know if it’s just because I’m getting old and nostalgic but the recent Regina Spektor album had me pick up her new album and I’ve been digging it. https://youtu.be/Eq5inG547JA

Pissed off at this one. Like having a such a clean image, must have made it that much harder for his victims to come forward. gently caress him. And Regina for backing him up on it. Like that’s a poo poo situation to be in but it’s shittier for his victims.

Hold steady have a new one too. Hold steady and new pornographers probably haven’t hit their high water marks in a while, but they’re records are consistently good and both are great live so I’m excited.

Rageaholic posted:Does Paramore belong in this thread? Their new album is out and it sounds more in line with this thread than the pop one. Hayley Williams even said this album sounds like Bloc Party (which I can kinda hear), who they're touring with in April. It's not my favorite album of theirs, nor do I think it's as good as Bloc Party's best stuff, but it might be worth checking out if a Bloc Party-influenced Paramore album sounds up your alley. Yea that's kind of my take on it.It's not bad, and I don't dislike it, but it doesn't really grab me either. Pitchfork's 6.5 is pretty spot on, and even a little high by their standards

By the way, he was originally supposed to sing We Sink on their first LP. Here's a BBC Radio 1 session where he's singing the lead: was going to post this. I think I still might give the edge to their first album, but screen violence is a close second.

I've spun it a couple of times and I think the new pornographers record is pretty solid. Seems like they're going for a bit of an AM Gold vibe. I also like the new Hold Steady. I don't think either band has put out a bad record As for Boy Genius...my record hasn't come in yet, so I haven't listened yet.

Also, saw the Mountain Goats last night. Great show but two observations: 1)I think the fans are having some sort of bingo thing with what songs are on the setlist, because some dude behind me would not shut the gently caress up about it. 2)After seeing that live version of This Year with craig Finn my brain really expects the song to now end with "and it almost killed me!"

This year, I've really dug: caroline polachek, boygenius, the national, hold steady, new pornographers, carly rae jepsen, pj harvey, joanna sternberg , bell witch and wednesday. Still have Slowdive, blonde redhead, and mitski to look forward to. I also haven't gotten around to feist or yo la tengo yet which I've heard good things about. Pretty solid year for me, though a little weak on hip-hop. But I'm pretty out of touch on hip hop. I think tyler the creator, and young thug have new records out this year, and lil yachty did a prog album, but have yet to listen to any of them
