Has anyone been to La Pastorcita on Buford Hwy?
http://www.yelp.com/biz/la-pastorcita-atlanta

I discovered it on Yelp tonight, as I was trying to find late night places, and I live almost walking distance from it. poo poo looks legit! If no one has been there, I'll try to go this weekend and scout it out, take menu photos, etc..

I mean, just look at it!

Sobban is on the list

The Ink & Elm looks really good too, in the Emory Village.

Three Taverns Tasting Room... never heard of it, but it just opened. A freakin Belgian style brewery in Atlanta? hell yes! They do tours w/tastings as well, which would be a lot of fun. Does anyone want to do a mini goon meet there and get slightly drunk?

From the Google docs form I put up to find a date for this, we had 11 or 12 yes and another 10 or so maybes. So far I've got 5 RSVP'd. I'd really like to get 10+. If I only get a handful of yes RSVPs, then I'll probably cancel and attempt to reschedule for some later date for a larger group.

Voted for General Muir. I agree, it was pretty awesome food we had. We'll be going back regularly now. King + Duke is missing something... proper flavor profiles? I mean, it's so close to being awesome, but it's just not.

Having just moved to Buckhead a year ago from the farmlands of North Carolina, I totally understand. We keep trying "Buckhead" restaurants and hate the whole vibe. F&B being the exception to the rule. It is the only snobby Buckhead restaurant we absolutely love going back to, as the food is perfection, and it's close by. It's also got a more intimate feel, not like some giant loud soulless room like everywhere else.

1. Underground Atlanta - it's probably the most amazing place in all of downtown Atlanta. It's within walking distance; I suggest going at night.
2. Hard Rock Cafe - hands down the most foodie place in Atlanta
3. If you have a car, and want a nice drink, the Clermont Lounge is a cool place to sip a beer and relax

In all seriousness, do you have a car? Us Atlanta folk never go downtown for anything (may I speak for the whole group?). There's plenty of good places nearby (driving), just let us know what you're in the mood for.

We had the same reservation saga at Goin' Coastal a few months back. I had some out of town guests, an 8:30pm reservation, and we were all literally starving from a long day out. "Your table isn't ready yet", said the hostess, "feel free to hang out at the bar, which is literally crammed full of other people, or go outside, since our restaurant is tiny as gently caress and stand around on the sidewalk" which is exactly what we did. A few tables were just lingering for 30+ minutes with the bills already paid. The manager came over and explained to us they couldn't do anything about it, since they were a small restaurant, blah blah blah. Annoyed and starving, I told them we would be leaving in five minutes if they don't get us a table (we had been waiting for 25 mins outside already), plus I'll be sure to drop some carefully crafted Yelp, google, etc reviews explaining our predicament... Well, that got us a table pretty quickly! I think they actually had the balls to ask this one inconsiderate table to leave. Food was good, but after reading the yelp reviews, the reservation issue is a VERY common occurrence at this restaurant, with many like complaints. They overbook tables, and that is an issue, especially when you don't have a proper waiting area.

The King + Duke was okay, but nothing exciting. Too buckheady. My favorite Buckhead restaurant is F&B right now. It's French Mediterranean cuisine and drat good food. Reservations are always flawless, service is perfect, etc.. The drink menu is only 2nd place to Leon's too. Sorta Buckheady, but it's got a soul at least. http://www.fandbatl.com/

I have no desire to go back to King + Duke, but did you try his new place St. Cecilia yet? The menu looks good, albeit a bit pricey. It took over the old Blue Pointe location.

We're going to Ru San's Buckhead now, since it's cheap as balls, and it's not a pretentious "Buckheady" restaurant. Haven't been in two years... Although their sushi is not really that great, it's still better than many others in town, and a much lower cost. It also seems like they seriously cleaned up their act after the Midtown fiasco.

Yes, I agree, Shoya Izakaya is much better. I found a place near my work called Sushi MITO http://www.sushimito.com/ which is also an authentic izakaya. Prices are fair and it's really good food! I don't know why I just discovered it last week, as it's been there awhile... so good!

I did bring some of my friends visiting from Osaka, Japan to Ru San's Buckhead once. Surprisingly, they said it was good and authentic. They mentioned the hot green tea was crap, but the food itself was on par with casual sushi places in Japan.

The old guy wearing safety glasses the entire time added to the mystique of this glorious establishment (circa 1974). It's like a set out of a Godfather film, for reals. We ended up at Tomo in north Buckhead last night. It was shockingly really drat good sushi! The place was a little "buckheady", but that only applied to the clientele, as the food was super duper. For a nice sushi establishment, the prices were on par, if not cheaper, than other run of the mill stripmall sushi joints. Some items were way overpriced, but the rolls and basic sushi dishes with rice made to perfection, were a bargain. We will go back, but probably to sit at the bar for a more informal meal. Gu's is great! I have ordered some terrible entrees there though (the fried stuff, ugghh), so it's not all good. I just wish they had better quality ingredients in lieu of their very large portion sizes.

We found a new Mexican place that's legit: Si Seņor on the Peachtree Industrial access road (Winter's Chapel intersection). http://www.yelp.com/biz/si-se%C3%B1or-norcross-2

"Yes Sir" From the outside, it doesn't look like a place non-Hispanics would ever walk into. But once inside, it's surprisingly very clean, professional, and better than 90% of all the other Mexican restaurants I've been in. It's not some scary helldump that epitomizes Buford Hwy fare. Just find a table and sit down, as they have full table service. They mostly speak English too. They have Tortas, Sopes, and other very uncommon Mexican dishes that don't taste like they fell off a frozen food distributor's truck. Cheap, but not in a bad way.
