My 2 favourite dj's at the moment:
cari lekebusch - http://soundcloud.com/carilekebusch/cari-lekebusch-alexi-delano
and joseph capriati - http://soundcloud.com/joseph-capriati/joseph-capriati-awakenings
Are playing the same night at fabric, the weekend before I leave london and the saturday straight after my last day in work. fabric on 31st march, 11-8. Gonna be the best leaving party ever.
Sasha & James teej are playing too but I dont give a gently caress about them.

I made some new music too, if anyone would like to have a listen.

If this is the track i'm thinking of, they've been going for ages and have at least one album out which is entirely live/jazz covers of house & techno. it's amazing.

edit: in looking for it, I also found these guys who've done a cover of it - http://www.sonarkollektiv.com/releases/SK170CD/

The guys i was thinking of are called christian prommer's drumlesson. Coincidentally enough on the same label. http://www.sonarkollektiv.com/releases/SK162CD/

He's playing in london early june. At an 18 hour long party... but only doing a 4 hour set.

Last time I saw him he was doing a 7 hour set and wouldn't even get off the decks when his time was up, the club ran over by 40 minutes with all the lights on.

I done a mix

http://www.mixcloud.com/neil-griffiths2/downpour-2013-01-05/

rich oddie - driftwork
niereich - flow velocity (perc remix)
pan pot & pascal mollin - the elephant (joseph capriati remix)
alex bau - darkhearts (ralph mirto remix)
spark taberner - kelder
niereich - black hole (dj danko remix)
rrose - waterfall
truss - osbasten
knobs - atavic (flex remix)
saimon & mezmeric - malatizio (spark taberner remix)
yan cook - murk
oliver kucera & carlos rios - tram 9
sam barker & andreas baumecker - a murder of crows (pt1)
niereich - mikado
ralph mirto - path (sasha carassi remix)
knobs - reality
nic fanciulli - lucky heather (dubfire remix)

It's kinda heavy. Gonna do a slow/warmup one this weekend. Probably end up darker though.

e: I cant believe that blawan/surgeon ep has 23,000+ plays after a week and it's not even out for another month. I don't think i've ever seen hype like that for proper techno.
The first track is amazing, but I can guarantee there are going to be some nights where it's played twice by different dj's.

Well you're not a bad DJ are you? Haha really enjoyed this mix. The transitions are excellent and feels like one long track; is this purely down to the track selection or something else? It's the part of DJ'ing that is still really hit and miss for me.

More mixes with tunes like this please!

Thanks :)
It's all track selection. Whenever you listen to music at home or otherwise, always be thinking about how it might work alongside other tracks you know - if it has similar sounds or a similar kind of flow. You dont need an intricate knowledge of every part of every track you own, just have a good idea of the mood of it and the type of groove it's got.
Once you get into the habit you wont be able to stop doing it at first and it'll be annoying at clubs, but it'll help. Eventually it'll become second nature, you'll be playing a track and the next one which is perfect for the moment will pop straight into your head without needing much thought.

edit: A great piece of advice someone gave me starting out was to keep my 'current' tracks to one side, at around 20-30 (I started with way less) and swap out a few a week. know those few like the back of your hand and listen to them all the time. It's easier to figure out what works when using a smaller sample size. It'll naturally grow in size on it's own as you become comfortable with the tracks in it, but that will keep it refined. When practicing, alternate between sets out of the current lot (record them, don't allow yourself to make mistakes) and do sets out of the stuff that hasn't made it in (gently caress around all you like, experiment more), and you'll find out very very quickly what works and what doesn't.

I still use that system now - but my current tracks number over 100, and i've got 2 variations for warming up & peak time.

I moved to NYC a couple of months ago (edit: nearly 6, man that's gone quick), so i've only done afterparties & more relaxed things.
That mix was to give to a few promoters in the area who've been asking me for one, and there's a new night starting up in a couple of months which i'm going to be involved in too - I say involved, it's mostly being done by 2 people who know what they're doing and i'm tagging along for the ride. There aren't many small nights here doing dark/industrial influenced stuff apart from one-off's, so we're going to do it and keep it thematically consistent.

Yeah, I'm in from Wednesday. Going with a crew so I'm not doing all techno, but i've got 7(maybe 8) parties booked in. Over 4 days.

I'm going to:
detroit premier showcase at treehouse.
fold theory vs the world at catalina hotel.
bedrock at cameo. maybe drumcode at treehouse the same night too, I may have a hookup.
CLR at space
basic NYC at beach plaza hotel
born electic cruise
never say never at the sls hotel

I'm not sure how I'm going to survive it, but it should be fun trying. Flight back up to NYC from fll sunday afternoon is going to be hell on earth though.

Yeah i'm not planning to drink in clubs at all, it's pre-games and adderall all the way through for me. I was reluctant to join to begin with due to budget concerns, but once the facebook group went from 8 to 26 people all in the same hotel I figured it might get quite serious.
I'll be drinking on the zabs boat though, because it's an open bar. I'm probably going to be in a complete state by the time I get to never say never.

Not bought a flask yet but I was scouting amazon for them this week :)

In case you'd not seen it, basic NYC is a free daytime party, and cari lekebusch is playing.

I don't think sneak is winning that one. Troxler said one thing, about sneak being an old man?

Now sneak is giving poo poo to everyone that replies and saying this kind of thing - "who? Suck Troxler? Please. He's made like 3 Traxx. I've made 4000 n counting. Fake rear end fool."
"if its about music then you talking to the master of beats. Dude has only made like 4 Traxx ever."
"go wank your dog. Like I need More gigs..."
etc. It's quite sad, he's clearly riled up and pissed off. Let it go sneak.

e: and in the middle, bookended by another 2 tweets about how he's better, drops this - "Amazing time working on beats with you real players! Ready to spread the Boricua love#nohyperealbusiness"

Jesus. I actually think a lot less of sneak right now.

Ableton's in-built tutorials are more than enough to learn the software - the only thing you'll learn from external tutorials is production tips that would apply to any other DAW (or even hardware/audio)

I'm locked in. When I say i'm locked in, a crew is locked in and we block booked 14 rooms and a suite at the marriott before Christmas.
It's going to be a complete shambles and I wouldn't have it any other way.

e: check on priceline, a few of our group missed out on rooms and are staying at the Westin at $107 a night. look on priceline for Downtown, 4star, indoor pool pulls it up as the only result. not sure if it's still available though.

AKP - look for parties on RA that say 'secret location' & add yourself to the rsvp list/try and get the address. you may get id'd, but you may not and could pay on the door. if it gets raided the police will be too busy trying to get everyone out without a riot to check id.
