Hello NE AI Goons. I have pissed off enough people at work and they are sending me from the UK to the Boston office and having sold the Skyline today I am now looking at something for when I move in about a months time and get an MA driving license since my UK one will be worth exactly zero. I hear you guys get snow, like lots of snow, do I need something with 4wd to not get stranded in the middle of no where and die of exposure? Really just an excuse to start looking at Impreza WRX and Lancer Evos for my new daily driver. Can't cost more than an GTR to run right?

daslog posted:You are probably going to get shot (American Gun laws) before you see snow. I wouldn't worry about it. Well if I stay here I will get stabbed, I think getting shot is cleaner. The office is out Burlington way in the suburbs so I can either just do the sensible thing and get 4wd or when it does snow just work from home and just go hog wild. Working from home sounds like a good option.

Always good to have a second set of prints on the gun. Having a look around I will probably pick up a WRX. Thanks for the help.

So I have arrived just in time for Sandy and now have my SSN so it is time to take the driving exam. I am going to fail it at least 3 times because I need to scourge all the things from driving in the UK from my mind.

The list is ok but I am going to have to practise parallel parking as I haven't done that since I took my original test over 10 years ago.

Ok well being asked about what happens if I am under 18 and caught drag racing was a bit pointless but I am officially a learner driver... again.

Moved to Boston from the UK and have to take the exam and road test to get a drivers license as they won't convert mine. Sorry, not much of a story.

Doing Autocross in a 2 week old leased VW GTI is a good idea? I am tempted to do it before I take it for the first service and the free detail they are giving after delivering the car late.

Some of the other guys at work do it so should go with them. Pretty sure RallyX would just kill the stupidly huge wheels on it.

Anyone have a recommendation for a place that does the clear film to protect leading edges? Tried ringing around the Boston area and not getting much luck.

Super Aggro Crag posted:You mean like the 3M clear bra type stuff? I have a buddy here in Western MA that does that for dealerships. That is the stuff. I will travel for someone who is good.

Just signed up for autocross on April 9th. I am guessing loaner helmets won't fit my fat goon head so I will have to go buy one. Anyone else going to the winter shake down?

From what I read it is just an event for people to run their cars and make sure everything is setup as expected. A number of novices myself included going along just to get some experience.

I have underground parking until next Tuesday when I move into my new home and then will have to keep a jump starter on hand.
