As always http://www.monkly-business.net/ is full of great info concerning optimal dps and grindspots and whatever, you just really have to dig through it. This thread was pretty good but probably a bit dated now http://www.monkly-business.net/forums/showthread.php?t=28149

I remember hearing that they took away the no-trade requirement on test transfers: Does that apply to FV stuff that is normally no trade on most-servers?

You get gold status on test and all expansions (aside from RoF I guess?) for free. That's the only appeal outside of the exp. I might copy my characters over when my sub runs dry, just for when I get the itch to log in for some nostalgia. With the 3x station cash -> subscription thing over, I don't think I'll be playing anymore for awhile.

Has the population spiked decently since the F2p move? Because back in HoT era I would go literally entire play sessions without seeing a single player on test. gently caress that server basically.

I guess my brain blocked them out. All I ever heard about FV was "Somalia", and how horrible chat was, and how "everything is camped" (obviously an exaggeration). Everyone I heard talked about how horrible it was.

Pretty much everyone I know who plays FV wouldn't consider leaving, except to go to test due to not wanting to pay anymore. The population is decent, you can buy fantastic gear that you would need to raid for otherwise (Granted, it costs a shitload, but if you're good at playing the economy that's not an issue.), Theres an EXP boost, Millions of exp potions on top of exp boost, and of course Lucerin.

Especially since apparently everything possible is already camped :(

FV "everything's camped" perception is really gated. When I was playing during VoA the T2-T4 zones for both HoT and VoA were fine. Sometimes we would have another group around, but we literally never had any real competition for what we wanted to do. However...the "everythings camped" mentallity comes from 85 and below, where common leveling spots like the loping plains gators, the farm in SoF, headshot spots like feerott, the hole, and other powerlevel spots under 75 are pretty crowded. Once we started doing stuff like city of bronze and the conch shell dungeon, it was fine. We focused mainly on achievement hunting, questing, and group progression, and never had any problems. meanwhile I heard day after day in general chat, "bawwww a ranger won't give me a turn headshotting lizards!!".

The rule of thumb is if its a popular headshot or swarm spot, it probably sucks. I can't imagine that being terribly different on other servers though. These days it seems like most SKs just do their swarming in instanced zones anyway.

Stunning kick is amazing and you will use it every 9 seconds (Or 30 or whatever the cooldown is when you start). Purify is great, but you can put it off for a little bit. Imitate death and all it's upgrades are amazing and also give you a free invis that stays up until you zone when you get back up.

You probably won't hit that point. The problem is that you're playing a 20-expansion old game, so most of the magic that it would have had (think: pre-wow, 1999, how revolutionary EQ was for its time) will be utterly lost on you. especially if you're just playing a few hours, since everyone will be at level 90+ and doing 20th expansion poo poo and the low level stuff will be long abandoned.

For item slots, you buy bags, and put a bag in each item slot. The tomes are probably...I have no clue, disciplines maybe? Try opening your discipline UI (Alt+c?) and entering them there.

Mercs seem like a bandaid in a lot of ways, but the wound they cover is nasty enough that I would never suggest changing them. Especially 20 expansions in with a supremely top-heavy population.

Who is that really bitchy lady on FV that uses general chat as her own personal soapbox? She is pretty bad too.

Haha, holy poo poo. I haven't played EQ since VoA, so I decided to see what was new in the thread. I'm an FV player who kind of goes back to play every 2-3 expansions since forever, and almost every time I log in, she's having a mental breakdown in general chat. It's fitting to see the first handful of posts even on SA I read are about her :v:. It kind of makes me sad to hear she's still at it, all day, every day. The kind of emotional energy that person channels at the FV general chat could power an entire city if scientists ever learned to harness it.

E: The insufferable "I guess I'll teach you people elvish"/person from FV I'm talking about is named Lucerin.

I really blame the timing of Gates for being what killed a lot of EQ1 for most people I knew from the pre-pop era. It felt like almost all of the content was only really doable by 5-10% of the server population. And then WoW came out like 6 months later. Talk about bad timing. The inaccessibility outside of the bleeding edge crew combined with the "who gives a gently caress, where are these places and things? I can't pronounce half of the things in this expansion." probably made it one of the worst expansions in my eyes.

What's the going rate for kronos bought from players on FV now? I'm probably going to go back for a bit at some point, and if I can use my bazaar baron funds to buy a few months, that's always a perk.

Just curious. I was a guide before they originally shut the program down. Is there a quick way to get back in, or do we have to go all through the application process again?

Yeah, the paladin I grouped with recently was able to tank everything amazingly well, because he kept fully up to date on his CA/CS AA's. The big problem was people hitting 80 and having a literal loving mountain of defensive AAs to climb to be viable. What was it, like 45 ranks of CA/CS as of VoA? If they didn't have their defensive AAs they took hits like a wet paper bag.

As someone who's abused mass killing methods on bard and monk, I'm still glad to see this happen. Last time I played, there were literally lines of rangers and shadowknights in every loving zone that could HS/swarm, and none of those assholes did anything but lock it down. They literally just used it to extort plat from everyone on the server to PL and were on like an 8 hour shift system. I would see the same rangers/sks selling PLs for 6+ months on end, day after day. Trying to do progression in some of those zones made me pray every day for a nerf so the rest of us could get the kills/stuff we needed. gently caress 'em all.

Yeah, sadly. I think that broke when they implemented the luclin patch. I used to use the qeynos tavern bulletin board a lot. It was such a cool touch, even if most players didn't know it existed.

Any suggestions on a decent way to use my three free heroic cash-ins?

Account 1: 90 wizard, 90 monk
account 2: 90 shaman
account 3: 85 bard

I was thinking maybe a shadowknight on account one, a cleric on 2, and enchanter on 3? I'm a few expansions behind. account 2 and 3 are usually silver. At this point I'm looking for a lazy combo since I hate mashing hotkeys all day and really only want to play one character most of the time.
