Speaking of Leftists, Nestor Makhno had a certain kind of smoulder only a romanticized anarchist revolutionary could. His band found itself at war with Bolsheviks (who were sometimes allies), Russian Whites, Hetmanate supporters, Cossacks, German and Austro-Hungarian encroachers and Ukrainian nationalists, which they did pretty successfully before being directly targeted by the victorious Bolshevik party. They were famous for mounting machine guns onto horse-drawn carriages, which fit their lack of heavy equipment and soldiers. He died in exile in France in his mid-40s, which is pretty good for a leftists revolutionary.  (Centre)
