You only have to read the papers (and the accompanying online comments sections) to know that there's plenty of people in the UK that distinctly lean towards their views, so how is it that they've always failed utterly to draw on that potential support? In place of any sort of slick political operation, you've got the drunken pressure group that is the EDL and the navel-gazing BNP doing their best to impersonate the Judean People's Front (Splitters!!). It's not so much the policy that does them in. It's the power and money. Nick Griffin was dodgy as gently caress even back in 1994 when his treasurers sent receipts to the News Of The World showing he used party donations to install a new kitchen in his house. When the BNP were camapigning in Barking for the 2010 General election, a FOIA request to the council revealed that during their previous tenure, around six of the 12 BNP councillors had only attended the bare minimum of 33% of meetings and all 12 had claimed the full £10,000 expenses. Also, between the lot of them, only around 50 housing caseworks were completed in the previous year while Labour's leader in the council had done over 300 alone (I lived nearby Barking during that time. Safe to say people were not amused when that tidbit came out in the papers). And a lot of the splitting that occurred afterwards was over the money and alleged misuse which lead to things getting really nasty when Griffin started kicking people out when they thought he was making the party about himself and his cash flow. The thing is, once the money and power and good times start flowing in, suddenly the ideals start becoming less of an issue for the leaders and more "How do I remain on top while I have the money and power". You can see with "Tommy Robinson" that he's hanging on tooth and claw to that power and trying everything in his arsenal to hold onto it. They can never hold together because of the money and power which ends up dividing and splitting parties. FN is just good at hiding their dodgy practices under French Privacy law (Especially when Jean Marie Le Pen started getting reporters sniffing around his way around a "Cash for questions" scandal with weapons manufacturers. He shut that down very quickly via the courts) and have a more united and structured party because they can prevent that sort of thing. They have their problems though (A chunk of their members thought Marie Le Pen getting in was through nepotism and daddy wanting her to guard his secrets). The British far-right seems to just buckle under the pressure and start fighting each other which is really what is keeping them from gaining any strength. On the flag issue it is a real shame that some people are afraid of showing pride in their nation/flag because they may be mistaken for having far right wing sympathies. It's a ban on some football jerseys to prevent hooligans and drunks from kicking off if they are in close proximity wearing different club colours rather than a "pride" issue. EG pubs in South London banning certain jerseys in case Crystal Palace and Millwall fans show up in the same pub and kick off because they see rival club fans. Most of the time it's not the England jersey that is actually banned, it's other football club jerseys. It's the same story rattled in the tabloids each time the world cup and euros come around, just with a few details "omitted" like the specifications of the ban ("No club colours or jerseys" is usually the one that's ommitted off the police or landlords statements) to bait the story. Last Euro's I remember there was a police letter circulated around landlords suggesting banning Jerseys except England jerseys in pubs in South London because they didn't want rival fans kicking off due to them mixing in the same pubs instead of the separate pubs they normally drink in on match day. Tabloids jumped on it, omitted the specifics of the ban and blamed the "ethnics" because it was just easy bait to say "COPPERS BAN ENGLAND JERSEYS BECAUSE IT OFFENDS THE FOREIGNS". It's a repeated story every year of a big competition that comes around like clockwork when it really is a case of landlords not wanting to have drunk idiots kick off in pubs over territorial bullshit and drive off customers who want to watch the football. Instead the tabloids blame people who have nothing to do with it. It's spectacularly sad but then indicative of how the press operates to bait articles and how morons get their ideas that flags and jerseys are banned.
