Okay, so the trailer for Bad Grandpa played before I saw Elysium tonight, and I'll admit, I chuckled at it a few times It still doesn't look nearly as funny as any of the Jackass movies, but I'll go see it and hopefully get some laughs out of it.

Machete Kills looks like a drat good time at the movies, and if they go to space for the next one...well then it's already confirmed that I'll be laughing my rear end off the entire way through it.

Wasn't Darren Aronofsky originally going to direct this? Man, that would've been so sweet TheBigBudgetSequel posted:What if I like this trailer and think you are being whiny? Even if it turns out alright, I still don't get the impression from that trailer that it's going to be a proper Robocop remake/reboot/reimagining/whatever the gently caress you want to call it. The Total Recall remake was alright...and nothing more. It definitely wasn't as good as the original, and it wasn't even the kind of movie that had a bunch of cool moments that I still think about and discuss with friends and such. This trailer gives me that same kind of vibe. And if you're gonna remake a classic movie full of heart and make it something that looks just alright, well why even do it at all? It's still a year out, though. Maybe the next trailer for it will look more interesting. Rageaholic fucked around with this message at 04:04 on Sep 6, 2013 |

DivisionPost posted:The pattern I'm seeing is "This trailer is bad because it isn't 80's Robocop." Yeah, a franchise that was awesome in the 80s and is still awesome today can be transplanted into the modern day, but that doesn't mean it should, especially when a big reason it's so awesome is because it's so heavily tied to the time period in which it was released. From what that trailer showed, it explores some of the same concepts as the original (albeit in different ways for some of them). But....I mean, come on, it's PG-13 for gently caress's sake. If you take the 80s satire out of the movie, at least leave in the ultraviolence for it to fall back on. With it being rated PG-13, even that won't be there.

ApexAftermath posted:What? I think you're letting nostalgia come in and cloud the issue up too much. When Robocop came out no one loved it because it "has so much of the 80s in it" because it was the 80s at the current time. I think if you can't break out of this mindset you are probably doomed to not like anything in the new one.

I think not wanting a remake of a classic movie that still holds up extremely well to this day is a valid opinion Especially when the trailer for said remake doesn't inspire much confidence that it'll be as much of an achievement as the original.

DivisionPost posted:It is a valid opinion, but it is not an opinion that can be credibly held against the movie itself. You're saying "This movie is going to be bad because it shouldn't exist." Think about that for a second. I don't think Robocop should be remade, but if a remake were to come out that actually looked like it would be above average and watchable, I'd be totally on board with it. But I don't get that vibe at all from this trailer.

DivisionPost posted:If you already think it shouldn't exist then it was never going to look good to you, short of Abbie Cornish climbing out of the screen to suck your dick -- even then you'd be talking 50/50 odds. Look, I think the trailer makes certain key missteps (YOUR SON NEEDS YOU) and I don't mean to be such a staunch defender of it, but let's get real here. If you're seriously closed off to the very idea of a Robocop remake you've got no business giving it any attention aside from an initial "Ugh, not seeing that."

It reminds me of the Fast And The Furious movies as well as Faster, that movie with The Rock, and probably some others that I can't think of at the moment, too. It doesn't really look like the in game cutscenes at all. I don't know why this movie even has that title or is related to the game in the first place. It's not like the plots of any of those games matter.

And that trailer was really weirdly paced too, it felt like you watched the same shots over and over again. Benedict Smaug was nice at least. Benedict Smaug did give me the chills a little bit, though, so I'll probably still go see it just for that, but in regular 24FPS.

Megaman's Jockstrap posted:No, New Zealand (and parts of Alaska, I couldn't believe it) actually look like that. I knew most of the LotR trilogy and the first Hobbit used a lot of on location shots in New Zealand, but in this trailer, a lot of the locations looked like they were done with CG, whether they were entirely composed in CG or a mixture of CG and real world locations. Is that not the case?

Posted about this in Gen Chat, but I saw/heard of Brick Mansions for the first time tonight by seeing an extended commercial for it on Comedy Central. Apparently it's an American variation of District 13/Banlieue 13. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CzcsN4k9FM So besides that, why should you care? Well Paul Walker's in it, and in fact, I think this may have been his last movie (unless the footage he shot for Fast & Furious 7 is still used). RZA's in it too. The movie itself doesn't look too special but I'll still go see it because of Paul Walker. It comes out on April 25th.
