I recently had to RMA a video card to EVGA (660ti) that they replaced with a 760. Overall I am very pleased with EVGA's customer service - are they a-typical in the graphics card industry?

I don't mess around with overclocking anything - stock runs fine for my needs and knowing myself I'd probably burn down the house. I'm really glad EVGA replaced the card though because I would not have been able to replace it with my current funds the way they are. Pretty sure EVGA just made a customer for life though.

How would heat generation and energy consumption compare between a 760 and a 970?

I have a 760 that seems to throw off waaay more heat than my previous 660ti. In thinking of upgrading to the 970 for the 2 free games and selling my 760 to offset the cost, and part of that consideration would be decreases energy consumption.

How much could I get for an EVGA 760 4gb, no overclocking?

970 145w

So the 970 is about 15% lower, up to you if that is really worth it. The main power savings were from people using 770s(230w) and 780s(250w). The 970 is certainly a much more powerful card in terms of performance though, so you would see gains there.

I am amazed at the energy efficiency gains recently in computer parts.

:science: Hey, we're using significantly less power... And it performs way better then before!

Any thoughts on what I could sell a 760 4gb for?

From my understanding, this is because all the Maxwell chips are basically underclocked and undervolted. Which explains the ridiculous overclocks you can get out of it - something like an extra 20-25% on GM100 and a full 50% increase on GM200. Rather than really push the performance to the limit, they traded it for power efficiency. Once you push the cards closer to their real capabilities they start chugging power just as badly as Kepler or AMD. At which point they drastically outperform them, of course. Overclocked Titan X's are crazytown performance, if I won the lottery I'd have a couple of them in SLI clocked to hell with a custom water loop.

Looking at it in that sense, it's the same kind of gimmick as Turbo Clocks on processors. They get to advertise super low power usage and "wink-wink nudge-nudge they overclock like a boss," but since the chip meets its published (under-specified) performance target there's no guarantees of any particular unit actually hitting a specific performance target. And they get to sell chips that would fail to pass quality-control if they were specified at a higher clock rate.

Even if they are under clocked, the performance per watt is still increasing, which is cool to see.

I was going to buy a MSI 970 but instead I got a GForce GF-1056-871 for MY GIRLFRIEND. At least I got to order a GForce...

Will a 760 4gb be able to run games at 1080 p with med-high graphics for awhile yet? Was considering getting a 970 but I may wait for awhile longer if the 760 is able to stay relevant

Anyone know if Microart (Microart.CA) manufactures pcbs for AMD? AMD has offices in the same city as Microart

Would a 4gb 760 be enough to drive a single ultra wide 1440 on medium settings with high fps for games that came out between 2012-2014?

I have a big backlog of older steam games to get through! I'd likely be upgrading video card with next round of releases, but I'm thinking of getting a nice monitor now

Will a 760 4gb drive a 1440p well enough for fallout 4 on 'decent' settings?

Some credit cards offer price watch/rewind programs if you end up seeing it for less after you buy it. Off the top of my head, Discover and CitiBank have programs like that.

The Slack Lagoon

I have a 760 4gb and I use a single 1440p.

Trying to decide if I want to get a 970/try for a b-stock 980ti or wait for the next gen.

Right now the 760 is mostly keeping up with what I need, but with FO4 coming out it might be nice to bump up the graphics card.

e: I do have a backlog of games to play through from when I was on grad school, so I suppose by the time I get through those I could upgrade then

I have a 3760k with 970 and I've been getting driver crashes in just about every game, from graphically simple to the complex. It's not heat, card runs sub 70c even under heavy load.

Latest drivers installed, tried uninstalling gforce experience, and no difference.

Anything I can try?

The drivers always recover in game, no ctd.

Not actually getting one, waiting to see how the 1070 shapes up, and I'll probably grab one of those.

I only have a single 60hz 1440p so I do not think a 1080 would be worthwhile.

I'm doing gaming on a 970 at 1440 and for most things it's fine. I'm assuming a 1080 would be overkill and if I ended up getting a new card a 1070 would be where I'd end up?

I got the gigabyte g1 gaming because I stopped at local microcenter and they happened to have it in stock and I put it on "EcoMode" which I think underclocks it. Not sure it really does much. It also has an overclocking mode
