How bad is the noise if I'm at 3200 ISO trying to get a pan shot of a car at night? My T3 experience has left me very, very gun-shy about anything that has risks of noise.

Your old camera isn't on the list sadly but you might be able to find something from that era to compare with. Xt3, z6 and S5 are there

Yeah the peak design strap is great. I wear it with quite heafty setup's. Eventually I'm uncomfortable but It's my back that hurts, not the strap digging in in or anything.

They have a 30 day return policy if it doesn't work for you.

Buy pre-owned and stuff that's a few years old, you will save a lot.

First recommendation that comes to mind for that budget would be the fujis.

Fujifilm xt3 - £550-600

Wide angle
fujifilm 16mm f2.8 - £300ish

Portrait
Fujifilm 50mm f2 -£300ish

Very small and light set-up.

Or you could get the 18-55 xf kit lens to do both. Won't be as sharp but for a kit lens is very good, and it's only about £350.

Once you feel the need for better optics Fuji have a range of sharper 1.4s but they are double the price and often double the size and weight.

If you are happy with DSLRs there is some full frame options in your budget, something like D750 is still a phenomenal camera and you can get pro grade glass on f mount for very cheap now. But it's a discontinued system. You have to be ok with the existing lens lineup available on the 2nd hand market (although it's very very large)

If your want mirrorless you're priced out of FF with that budget, except for maybe a Sony A7Rii? Think that goes for around £800?

What sports? 50mm even on apc-s isn't much reach.

I had that happen to me.
An old toothbrush, some white vinegar and 5 minutes later it was all working.

Anything pre AF-I won't auto focus with the FTZ adapter.

With the Nikon ZFs release I kind hope Nikon make some kind of retro inspired adapter that has the screw so you can adapt the old lenses.

Looking for some camera advice. I am almost exclusively into landscape photography, including on backpacking trips. I currently have a Nikon D7200 and am considering moving up to a full frame camera. I'm leaning heavily towards mirrorless for size/weight reasons. I have read that Nikon and Sony are the front runners for my use case due to having the highest dynamic range. Is that accurate, or should I consider other brands as well? I have a slight preference for Nikon due to nostalgia and having a couple of old Nikon manual lenses from my parents (I believe these would still work on a Nikon Z with an FTZ adapter), but if there are compelling reasons to pick a different brand I'm happy enough to do so.

In Nikon, it seems like the Z7 II is my best choice, as it has a smaller form factor than the Z8 or Z9, and perhaps a slightly better dynamic range than them as well? Am I getting that right?

In Sony, what model(s) should I consider?

Thanks!

Just landscapes? Then I would consider the Z7. The Z7ii has better autofocus and a few other things you might like but a preowned Z7 go for £1100 these days. A z7ii new is £2400, preowned they are like £1800.

Nikon's official line was they would allow 3rd party lenses that complimented the line up.
Now they have their roadmap done their own releases will probably slow down and I'd imagine they will more freely let others (besides tamron) to release lenses. Sigma have some aps-c lenses out but nothing ff yet.

An open format like Sony or Fuji would be better but atleast it's not like what canon are doing.

Only reason I can really see to go third party at this point is some specialty lens or if you just want a cheaper option than the Nikon stuff.

Nikon's 1.8 primes are great but a little on the large side. I'd personally like some 3rd party smaller options even if a touch of image quality is the price. Or if Nikon repeated what they did with the f2 40mm and 28mm at other focal lengths.

I am waiting for global shutter to hit the a7 line and I might consider a new body. Having a constant buffer of pre-captured shots and just scrolling through to choose the perfect moment is pretty incredible.

That tech isn't reliant on global shutter, the Z9 has it.

The main things global shutter 'fixes' is flash synch, banding and distortion.

The z8 and 9 are apparently. It's just the older bodies like the z6iii arnt.

The Zf AutoFocus got pretty well reviewed.

DSLR lenses are very easy to find and bargains as people offload them to upgrade to mirrorless.
It's dead in that new lenses won't be made yes, but you have decades of lenses to choose from and lots of websites that specialise in 2nd hand gear.
