I did like the lion it kinda cemented the notion that dark angels were a 3rd party during the heresy.

Try Ian watsons draco I personally like that inquisition series more than Dan abnetts.

I personally think Mechanicum is a under rated book a lot of good bits and a decent story about the fall of mars . Is ctan still a thing because ?

Waiting on fear to tread, and the new eldar book which are better than what I expected considering its from a xeno point of view.

I thought it was decent book. Like said before there is only so much you can do with Horus he has to fight the emperor he has to get amped up by the big 4 to be able to do it. So it nailed those points and it has no kurze so its a plus.

It will be very interesting whether ADB runs with the Big E stealing power from chaos or just a deal gone bad.

I was really disappointed when black library changed the cost format a couple of years ago. Before that I would buy every single one their paperbacks. I haven't bought a BL book since the price increases and format changes.

Im with the above posters i use to love buying black library novels when they were priced at mass market book value. I am so confused by 30$ for teen fiction. Its barely passable when its written by Abnett or ADB even then i would only pay 7.99 for it.

25 bucks for a mass market paperback is to much. Even if its good by BL standards..

I see where your coming from i have boxes full of warhammer books i don't display either because its junk fiction fun to read and pass some time. Its books design to sell mini dolls so nothing to take seriously.

I listened to Legion on audiobook last year and chalked up how little I remembered about the book to the combination of listening instead of reading and being completely new to WH40k fiction. Then I picked up the Night Lords Omnibus, tore through it and loved it, so I decided to pick up Legion to read because I had such a hard time remembering what happened in the book beyond the fight in the big Nurthene Chaos city and meeting the Cabal at the end.

That book is one of the most disappointing reads in recent memory. I respect the idea of building up to writing Space Marines and including a human perspective of the transhuman but Legion is just a poncey Imperial Guard caper with Space Marines as set dressing. It's ridiculous that the title is Legion and a legionnaire is on the cover but there isn't any perspective from within the Alpha Legion. I would be less disappointed if the characters weren't so flat and boring. I couldn't care about a single IG character, no matter how imaginatively they dressed, and I actively dislike John Grammaticus. All the cool spy poo poo loses its effect when the writer makes such little effort to show the perspective of the masterminds.

If you're reading most of what the Black Library puts out and keep up with the tabletop game, it's an understandably refreshing break from ALL SPACE MARINES ALL THE TIME BUY OUR poo poo but for someone who used to put together cool looking models as a pastime and is now looking for the interesting parts of my favorite armies' fluff for casual reading it doesn't work.

I'm not trying to be some contrarian downer but I've only seen blind praise for Legion in this thread and was surprised at how little I enjoyed it. If anyone else is looking for something that prominently features the Alpha Legion, I prefer the Rob Sanders short story from the Primarchs anthology to Legion. It's a series of setpieces that ends with pages of bolter porn but it's focused on the Alpha Legion in every way that Legion isn't.

Your pretty much spot on legion and mostof Black library's offerings. I mean legion gave us bullshit like the cabal and grammaticus. So it has those strikes against it.

They really hated selling mass market paperbacks. Do they really do much better now then the old pricing scheme?

Greataval

It probably part of the reason the Emperor hates aliens so much because the cabal has been meddling in hia plans for a long time.

Its kinda shocking considering 10 years ago BL was putting out some many paperbacks of varying quality and that was fine. Like i wish i understood the reasoning behind only releasing 5 novels this year with a bunch of lovely novellas.

Just read through The Armour of Fate short story and the opening with Gulliman struggling with being stuck in his armour is surprisingly tongue in cheek. Guy Haley did a really good job of writing about how having a gigantic power fist and a huge pair of wings and halo stuck on your back for years might perhaps become somewhat annoying. Also having itches he could never scratch.

He should write similar for one of the Chaos guys who is half fused to their armour.

I like that they basically turned Bobby G into a phoniex lord. Pretty good story for a short too.
