Greetings, thread! I have a ware I would like to peddle. First, I have Larry Walker. This stud can play CF OK, but he's a capable corner outfielder who will get on base around 36% of the time. For reference: SLIII: .319 AVG, .418 OBP SLIV: .274 AVG, .343 OBP ECV: .267 AVG, .348 OBP The only reason I'm not using him in the league right now is because of an injury (and now I've replaced him with Mel Ott). What am I looking for? I don't really know. I need a better bullpen or a top-flight 2B. My team is underperforming as a whole right now but it'd be hard to replace anyone. I guess I'd also consider a DH. Please let me know if you're interested! I'm willing to part with basically anyone because I like to trade. Thanks!

Both wrong. There shouldn't be two gauntlets. Take every team that doesn't make the playoffs in the Super League and every team that doesn't make the playoffs in the EL and throw them in a SUPERGAUNTLET. 16 teams from the SuperLeague, 12 teams from the Expansion Cup, two 50-game seasons (with owner input at the 50-game mark), top 14 make it to the show. Not only does this cut a SIGNIFICANT amount of work out for you (you only have 2 gauntlet rounds!), it ensures that every team gets a full-ish season of "for real" play. Make it SL6.5 or whatever. If you want to make it even jazzier, you can have a relegation draft afterwards. The worst teams after the first 50-game season is dispersed and drafted among the participants in the supergauntlet, to strengthen them for SLVII should the time come. For example Teams a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h,i,j,k,l,m,n from SLVI Teams A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I,J from ECVI 50 game gauntlet #1 order: C,a,d,c,E,H,l,A,b,B,n,F,i,g,I,j,f,D,H,G,m,e,h,k,J J and k dispersed among remaining 22 remaining teams 50 game gauntlet #2 order: d,H,C,a,e,h,m,G,F,c,E,A,l,n 14 teams advance bottom 2 teams in second gauntlet form dispersal class for SLVII

Interesting. The die has been cast. I should note that there is almost no upside (not that I care), because the stable with the higher winning percentage is just really likely to already evade the gauntlet. Oh well! I hope there are no objections to A Tribe Called Quest being the official band of Marauder's Marauders. It just makes sense, you know?

Ott to RF, DiMaggio to DH, Salmon to bench. That challenge is a lot of words for basically "falls within the margin of error so I don't know why I'm complaining," but since he's in my faction, I agree with him, or against him if that improves his case. factorialite fucked around with this message at 14:07 on Oct 8, 2012 |

Ahh, the elusive C/SS combination. I wonder why you don't see that more often? For reference, only one player had 30 starts at both catcher and shortstop in the same season. Whoever it was (I'm too miserly to pay for B-R), he OPS+'ed 79 that year. I DON'T have anywhere to put him, unfortunately. I already have Foxx at 1B, so he basically has to DH for me. That moves DiMaggio into the field, which, I guess? I can put DiMaggio into a platoon with Wilson, but they both hit lefties better than righties. DiMaggio can't play every day but seems to be rolling favorably while Wilson hasn't. I'm going to platoon them with DiMaggio hitting lefties and Wilson hitting righties for now. pre:vs. R Knobs 2B Boggs 3B Foxx DH Foxx 1B Yaz LF Yount SS Wilson CF Justice RF Smith C pre:vs. L Knobs 2B Boggs 3B Foxx DH Foxx 1B DiMaggio CF Yount SS Yaz LF Salmon RF Smith C

I'm thinking of using a ratings challenge on Joe Wood, but I'm wondering why he has so few innings compared to the other starters. Did he get banged up and I'm just not remembering? If so, did it do permanent damage?

Hey, I'm using a ratings challenge on 1911 Joe Wood. Here is Joe Wood's 1911 line: 2.02 ERA, 7.5 K/9, 2.5 BB/9, 162 OPS+ Here is Joe Wood's SLVII line: 6.24 ERA, 13.2 K/9, ?? BB/9, ?? OPS+ His K/9 seems incredibly high at first blush, but considering that 7.5 K/9 led the league in 1911 and he was the premier strikeout dude of his era, that might only be a little high. What is less understandable is that while he's striking out more people than he did in the 1910's, his ERA is way higher. I don't precisely buy the argument of poor fielding: in the 1910s, fielding was also quite terrible and while I have poor defense it isn't contributing to 2.5 to 3 more runs per 9 innings. Wood's highest ERA in any season in his career (min. 100 IP) is 2.62: that was towards the end of his career, and my Wood is in his prime. Wood has always been nails in the Super-League (Randy Johnson less so, so I'm hesitant to challenge his rating), but it's been an appreciable amount of time for him this year and he's been terrible. Even his rating is a 79, which indicates either diminished skills due to injury, the worst luck in history, or a gross underrating. You yourself attested to his health so I'm only left to believe that Wood is either insanely unlucky or misrated by the Mogul engine.
