Savouring this, as it may be the only update I'm in first/above .500/with hope of survival. Still, there are changes to be made. Bring up Chipper, replacing Pendleton. New line-up: 2B Ray Durham CF Al Oliver 3B Home Run Baker 1B Frank Thomas LF David Justice (against RHP)/Oscar Gamble (against LHP) RF Oscar Gamble (against RHP)/Magglio Ordóñez (against LHP) SS Roger Peckinpaugh C Jim Sundberg <pitcher> If the DHs stay: Thomas to DH, McGriff to 1B batting fifth. Pitching stays as is, and will continue to do so until Greg Maddux's arm falls off. As well as Peckinpaugh has started, I don't foresee it being sustainable, so I'm still looking for an SS, but it's not quite the priority it was. Edit: Roster post updated here. The Peckinpaugh bubble has predictably burst. In a big way. But it's alright, not like he's the only viable shortstop on my roster or anything... : Bwahaha! I'm untouchable! Sod off, Roger. Anyway, to business. Chipper Jones and Steve Avery replace Terry Pendleton and Mark Buehrle on the 25. Avery just takes the fifth slot in the rotation; my pitching is otherwise unchanged. Since the game is telling me Thomas needs a rest, McGriff starts at 1B for the first week of the month only. Gamble isn't doing so hot at the minute, forcing some roster switching, as follows: 2B Ray Durham CF Al Oliver 3B Home Run Baker (Chipper Jones during the injury) 1B Frank Thomas (Fred McGriff for the first week) LF David Justice RF Magglio Ordóñez C Jim Sundberg (vs RHP)/Javy López (vs LHP) SS Roger Peckinpaugh <pitcher> I'm seriously considering batting the pitcher eighth. There's no getting around it – I have huge holes at SS, CF and RF. Now ordinarily, I would turn to the dispersal draft for help, but looking up and down the Expansion Cup rosters, it seems SS and CF are pretty universal problems for this round of teams. This leaves me with three options: 1) Get to the Expansion Cup Finals for the bonus pick (not going to happen, even if I am currently .500 against the Postmodernists); 2) Tank enough that a decent SS/CF is still on the board (a stupid idea, and I'd probably accidentally make my team better without achieving point 1); or 3) Trade out to someone who can find better value in the draft than I can, in return for filling one of the above mentioned holes, which is the way I'm currently leaning. Also, Cthulhu, you're completely right, so have the pitcher bat eighth in both lineups. Ginge fucked around with this message at 11:49 on Aug 22, 2012 |

I don't know... I know Mogul's ratings should be taken with a dollop of salt, but the fact that both Joosts are rated lower than Peckinpaugh (whose awfulness is the biggest personality trait my team has) doesn't inspire confidence that one of them would be worth a first-round pick. I'm not saying no yet, just that I need more convincing.

The 'Dreamers monthly records so far: 16-12, 16-11, 16-11. That's some rather nice consistency there, and I hope it continues. Only one change this month: Ordóñez takes over full time at RF from Gamble, who is probably the biggest disappointment on my team. Yup, that means another month of Peckinpaugh.

Monthly record update: 16-11, 16-12, 16-11, 17-9, 16-12. I'm not really sure whether that consistency is a good thing or not. Anyway, one roster move: Flip Ordóñez and Yount in both lineups. Also, by my reckoning, Maddux will be pitching the very last game of the season. If by then the division has been decided (either in favour of myself or the Gumshoes), Dazzy Vance will take that start, with Maddux going to the bullpen.

Oh, how I wish Jon Matlack being this fantastic was sustainable. Still nice to see, though. Yount, on the other hand, needs to stop putting up Peckinpaugh-esque numbers, or else I'll have to waste even more depth/risk a challenge to fill in at SS. I see Burgess needs some rest. Have Sundberg start at catcher for the Unspecifieds series, batting eighth. Upon the conclusion of the series, revert the lineup to its current form. Oh, and knock my pitching through trouble slider down to +3.

Rough week, but that was to be expected against the Bangers and Gumshoes (who I'm now 7-18 against lifetime. Yay for terrible matchups). Still, I'm .500, which I'd be very happy (and surprised!) to stay at for a while. He'll sulk about it, but Dunn gets replaced by Justice in the right-handed lineup. Justice was really good for me in the EC, not sure why I messed with that really. As for Vance, I'm not massively concerned yet, as a large part of his stats are skewed by two terrible long relief outings. I'm willing to give him more time. I only have my second rounder due to the Burgess trade with the Landers. My preference is 3B if any of the first three miraculously drop; otherwise SP. One more thing - have Sundberg be Glavine's personal catcher.
