There was a hill climb event happening at Bathurst on Sunday, and one of the track marshalls had their car parked near one of the barriers:

It looks like a fairly standard looking Triumph Dolomite Sprint, right?

Well this one has a Leyland P76 4.4lt V8 in it (with Rover valve covers). The owner drives this car a lot, even on dirt tracks. He started it up and gave it the beans and it sounded great

I know an old guy who loaded one of those V8s into a Vauxhall Viva:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cACsOSXFNWw

From memory it had MX5 suspension bits on the front and he later slung an LSD and some line locks in because 11s. It was a very silly car and effortlessly cool.

They're no Cossie, but the Lantis/323F was a neat little car, esp in Type-R form with the 170ps 2.0L KF-ZE V6. Or if you wanna get spicy, the 2.5L KL-ZE from a JDM MX-6 can be had with 200hp, or if you really wanna ball out, there's the 2.3L supercharged Miller cycle KJ-ZEM with 217hp.

Weirdly, though it's a "323", it's not built on the B-platform, it's built on the C-platform so makes it closer to a 626, early Madza 5, Eunos 500 etc. Frameless doors, and Mazda at the time even called it a 4 door coupe, long before the Germans got in the game with say the Merc CLS, BMW GranCoupe etc.

That Mazdaspeed wing is super rare, even in replica form, hell I bet it's rarer than the Cossie!

So, jingoist bad-boy posing aside, not only an e-Charger, but a coupe e-Charger. A hatchback coupe e-Charger. AND a sedan.

AND a twin-turbo straight-6 as the ICE option.
I saw that the Hemi was dead in the trucks, I didn't expect to see it in the Charger.
More Hurricane 6's for interesting swaps later, right?

Still not sold on the electronic noise system, but eh, as long as it can be turned off, why not.

Really nice rig, though. I sincerely did not notice that it was RD until you said something. I'm sure I eventually would have caught it, but first blush not so much, especially given some of the stunts they actually do pull with those things now.

WUT.

what a great idea. kind of surprised they don't offer an even further reduced kit, where it's all just the flat lasercut parts but you do the final welding yourself.

to save everyone a click, the DIY price is around $50k + donor (28k for the chassis, plus everything else). that's pretty reasonable.

are you saying it's 28k for a beetle chassis now? cause if so gently caress me, i sold like 5 of them 20 years ago for basically scrap price after paying slightly higher than scrap price for them in the first place. hell one of them was scrap cause someone just wanted the drivetrain and subframe

no, their fully custom laser cut and welded chassis with M5 suspension and LS swap harness and stuff

only the body is used from the donor beetle

I don't think the R3 is quite that big, but basically nothing can be that small any more.

I would say fiberglass or reproduction, but then you don't get the VIN you're going to need.

edit: don't use a decent body. Use a ratty one for more stealth!
