I wish we had enforcement of that rule at my C&C. Some people are definitely going to ruin it for us soon. The local Five Guys is nice enough to let us use their parking lot and there’s always some asshat in a crackle-tuned VW or a straight-piped Mustang just making GBS threads it up.

People that manually deploy active aero when slow look dumb as gently caress, only outdone by those who do it when fully stopped and parked.

I'd be worried some idiot would put a rock in it or something to completely gently caress it up when it tries to close, not worth the "flex" [e] altho it's entirely possible it's broken and wont go down

Yeah, something like 15 years ago I remember seeing UPS trucks with Alero headlights. Don't recall if I've seen one recently but it definitely was a thing at some point. The reasoning behind it is that for low-production vehicles (UPS trucks, Weinermobiles) it's just much easier to get something that's already DOT-approved vs designing something new and having to go through the approval process again. Also engineering costs, serviceability, etc. They can just design the sheetmetal to fit whatever they want. It does look funny, though.

How did that work, I wonder. Morgan Olson runs out of sealed beam enclosures, asks around. GM says, "Hey! We just shuttered Olds. Plenty of poo poo there! How many you want?"

The funniest one on that topic is the Jaguar XJ220 which used the rear light assembly from the 1989-1995 Rover 216 budget family car, which in turn shared a platform with the Honda Civic.

Just one of many such examples. Noble M600 - Mk1 Mondeo tails. Aston Virage - VW Scirocco tails. Lotus Esprit - pictured here with Rover SD1 lights, over the lifespan it also stole them from a Fiat X1/9 and the AE86. Morris Marina/Allegro/Range Rover door handles too, until they got replaced with those from a Vauxhall Cavalier. TVR Chimaera Mk3 Euro Fiesta tails. Aston DB7 - Mazda 323F/Astina tails, MX5 door handles. MG XPower SV - Fiat Punto heads and tails were also Fiat. McLaren F1 - tails from a 1982 Bova Futura bus, mirros from a Citroen CX - these mirrors also were on the XJ220 and a bunch of others. Late Diablo - 300ZX lights with a strip of carbon on top to hide the Nissan logo. Early Murci - that side indicator is a Focus part.

Something I always found amusing watching some of the supercar rebuild channels - say B is for Build - not defending some of the jank poo poo they do, but in the earlier days when they were doing more simple rebuilds on Lambos. You'd see commenters in horror at how they were replacing parts of the tube frame, "you can't do it like that!" when in fact, all the were doing was replacing simple box tube sections like for like, with vastly better welds than the boogers Antonio and Lorenzo splattered on one Friday in Sant'Agata. Again, not defending all their jank, just this specific case.
