One of the best final laps ever, Scott McLaughlin in the Volvo on debut. Watch the whole thing, it's great.

The first wing might be a bit much but they're both still fairly tasteful and restrained from the truly awful stuff.

The biggest issue with that wing is the stupid 3d chord bullshit.

The mounted it high enough for the clean air, might as well have something 2d

i highly doubt that car is going to see the speeds where a wing like that is going to provide any measurable downforce either as 2d or 3d so it literally is just for style, aka like half the poo poo done to drift cars

Depends on a lot but with a good airfoil that has lots of area, a single element wang can generate 50-100lbs of down force at 40-60mph, autocross speeds. Then it's about how light your car is. 100lbs on a 1800lb crx is significant.

But yeah, to get more downforce than the weight of the wing/mounts takes clean air, good airfoil, long chord, steep angle of attack, and no one does that poo poo but track rats trying to shave tenth to bring home those plastic spark plug trophies

A 1.5% gurney flap will easily increase the amount of downforce by 25-30% even without anything close to a optimal wing design or location. With a optimal set up then you are not talking tenths gained, that's where you get into seconds per lap with aero gains.

Also this is a LMAO

Good point. I was trying to highlight that even at autocross speeds, mindful aero can give a competitive advantage.

I stumbled upon this dudes website a while ago. He does a bunch of home-brew tests & simulations. I like how he used ride height sensors he ripped off a luxury SUV to measure down force. I'm glad he's getting paid, but it is lame he recently locked down most of his content.
