Yes, Austin/BMC really made this. "I know what the Mini needs! An ugly grill, a bolted on boot and rear lights from the Morris 1100!" :barf:

If that were a Metro Turbo, they'd be about even, performance-wise.
Until the engine ate itself. Or was that the Maestro Turbo? I forget.

Yeah, I was expecting to see this here. Those red bits on the wings? Rear lights. Oh, but that's not the worst part: http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/la-motor-show-2012/la-motor-show-smart-forjeremy

Racing a pair of Beemers down the M1 at three o'clock in the morning at just shy of a ton-and-a-half? What could possibly go wrong?

Oh.

quote:

A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after two men were killed in a crash on the M1 in Hertfordshire.

The men, aged 22 and 24 and from London, died in the collision, involving two BMWs, between junctions 5 and 4 near Watford, at about 02:40 GMT.

Two other men were taken to St Mary's Hospital, London, with "serious injuries" police said.

The four men in the second car were also injured and taken to hospital.

A police spokeswoman said their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening. The arrested man is from east London.

A man living near the accident told the BBC he was awoken by the noise of the crash and when he got to the site he saw some survivors fighting.
This is the BBC being its usual restrained self, of course. Apparently what happened was there were three cars allegedly racing, the third had to stop at a service station for someone to take a piss and when they caught up/arrived at the scent they all supposedly piled out of their Merc and started beating up the survivors for killing their friends.

Oh no, it's worse than that: the gearbox is from Citroen via British Leyland and the engine is from Chrysler.

Nah, the Evoque started development after Ford sold JLR to Tata. The current Explorer is just an ex-LR employee copying it for Ford.

There was discussion similar to this in a local subaru group recently. Concensus was first gen Impreza WRX/Turbo prices are just bottoming out at like 2 or 3 grand for a rough one. Suspect they're gonna be a bit more expensive than that in a few decades.

80s and 90s hot hatches are already bouncing hard as well. It's gonna be cool seeing what makes it to classic status.
My brother bought a (just about) running Mk1 Golf GTi 1.6 for £750 about a decade ago. You'd need to add a zero onto the end of that price nowadays, at least.

Though our fleet company pays extra to delete the jack and spare tire. (then dings us for turning them in without them....) Looking at Ford's website, it looks like you can pay extra for them to keep the radio out of them (you get a single DIN opening instead), but you can't get a CD player at all.
When I worked for a leasing company, one customer had mandatory fire extinguishers as part of their lease requirements - factory if the marque offered them, dealer-fit it not. Then one day we got a notice in saying not only to remove that requirement but also make it forbidden to order a fire extinguisher.

Found out why a bit later - someone had a car fire and went "Oh, I know - I can fix this myself!" and it didn't end well.

I wonder if your fleet company had someone get hit when changing a tyre?
