I just gave a lengthy demo for Ableton and Reason, and this was what was made. Been a while since I posted in here...

I'm always nervous to post here but I'm super pleased with this and finding my way again.

I'm still not sure if I'll work more on this or continue climbing.

edit: What are some trick y'all use for hi hat manipulation? I'm working in Ableton with a very limited gear set up right now. I paint my hihats for the moment, am I just better off making a ton of drum loops and cycling between them during a second pass?

Oh and I'm working in Ableton, if it matters.

So I've set up my studio in the past two weeks or so. Now I've got my vinyls in close proximity to my computers.

I have a TT-Ion USB. I Have the cables I need. Should I record via USB cable or hook up an I/O device and record the audio?

I'm kinda coming into my own a bit in the last few months. I'm consistently making tracks that not only do I dig personally, but that I'm wanting to keep working on forever.

Anyone who works in Ableton, what's a really neat way to futz with bass? I like this one, but it sounds...flat, what ways can I change that beyond transposition?

For some reason, I'm a bit self conscious about this, maybe because I think I could do more to it, or maybe because it's not quite where I want to be musically, but I'm still very pleased with stuff I've been making lately.

Just uploaded this, discovered that Ableton 9 has an upload to Soundcloud feature, so I decided to make something at least a little worthwhile to test it out. Happy with this.

This is dope. I love the sound of the clap.

Hey thanks guys, I'm not sure why, but something seems to have finally clicked for me. I guess 5 or so years of on-and-off producing has led me to have a lot more knowledge about how to achieve what I want than I thought, even as recently as 6 months ago.

I'm making these in like 2-3 hours.

Made this last night, but intend to tweak it further. Thoughts?

I want to maybe try out a more woody sound like a rim shot or woodblock instead of a clap.

Do I need a better melody?

Love the vibe on this. Was hoping for it to hit a little more, maybe a hi-hat or something. Love it though.

Anybody using iMaschine 2?

I've never played with touchpad triggers or the maschine interface before a few days ago.

Considering the last post was April 20th, even if this is trash, I'm happy with it and how it turned out.

I like this, cool vibe and nothing stands out to me as being really out of place or jarring. My one criticism could be it's a little long for the simple instrumentation but I didn't really get bored listening to it.

Cool, thanks man, I make like 10 of these a week but none see the light of day until I work on one for 10 minutes and bang something like this out. I feel the same as you.

I've been loving around with the original iMaschine for a bit now. I love it for getting some ideas down but at this point I'm looking to move towards desktop stuff, so I skipped the iMaschine 2.

That said, I'm now looking for a nice new Midi controller to mess around with FL Studio because my 49-key Axiom is way too big to keep in my Manhattan apartment. Looking for a 25-key with decent pads (I guess, also not opposed to just getting my pads elsewhere).

I skipped iMaschine, but 2 is treating me really well. Your question about a midi controller is also very relevant to me, and I look forward to the advice you get.

Well, that's troubling, because you've got to put some thought into flow, but even if you've got it wrong at first blush it's nothing that can't be finessed. What kind of lyrics are we working with, here? What sort of production style are you aiming for? Bagpipes? "Scottish motif" could mean a lot of things, honestly.
