My mum had a friend who named her first 2 kids after their birthplace (Sydney and Paris, I think), and planned to name all her kids in this way, until she unexpectedly went into labour with her 3rd child (a girl) in Wellington. Her 4th kid was born in Scone.

Wellington III, perfect for that aristocratic touch.

My sister is named Esther. She's in her 20s. She's named after my aunt Esther, who is dead. Why yes, we are Jewish, why do you ask?

What was really weird was when I moved to the Netherlands and every other 20something was named Esther; I was so used to thinking of it as a weird name for a non-old person to have.

I was about to say, Esther is a somewhat common name for [young] people in the Low Countries.

Old people in Flanders all have French names like Yvonne, Fran¢ois or Antoinette. Baby boomers have names like Els, Hilde and Eric/k. You have a fairly good chance of guessing the generation that someone belongs to based on their first name.

This isn't great, but it's not like it's made up. It's the Italian and Spanish form of Aurelius, as in Marcus. My niece has the feminine form of that name as well, which happens to have been the name of Julius Caesar's mother.

I had the same reaction and immediately thought of proud POC Marcus Aurelius. With Americans, just assume that 'white' is perfectly synonymous with 'Anglo-American' and things will start making sense.

Fanny is, or used to be, a fairly common name in English-speaking countries (apparently short for Frances) and I even think its usage in other countries mostly derives from English. But I guess it turned into a slang word in the meantime.

My neighbours met some Mormons when they were new in town. First they were invited to a picnic in the park, and later to a threesome. They politely declined these kind offers.

This seems a bit out of character for Mormons, except I guess for the polygamous part.
