I picked this game up on a whim based on good memories of playing the tabletop version a couple of time years ago. I've been acquainting myself with the teams and rules, and have found myself really liking Chaos Dwarves. A few questions:

1) The general idea I've gotten is to use your Bull Centaurs as Blitzers/Runners, use your Dwarves for kicking your opponents rear end, and to use your Hobgoblins for ball retrieval, caging your Centaurs, and fouling your opponent's keystone players. Is this more or less on the right track?

2) A Minotaurs worth using/developing? I've given one a try a few times, and it struck me as horribly unreliable and not worth the cost. Do they get substantially better with experience?

3) Should I bother trying to protect and develop my Hobgoblins, or should I just accept that they're going to get maimed and killed?

Do bribes actually work? I've used them 4-5 times now, and literally never had them overturn a foul.

Spite is an intrinsic part of Blood Bowl.

I love how there's literally nothing, up to and including how they play orc rugby, that people can't find a way to whine incessantly about.

Not blood bowl, but has anyone noticed "Mordheim – City of the Damned"? A game in development with permadeath, team development, multiplayer and it seems, quite substantial customisation options? Atleast according to this preview by RPS;

Hopefully it will be good. Bad things would be only 4 different teams at launch (DLC anyone?) Couldnt find a thread on SA about it so this is the closest thing. :)

There's the GW Specialist Games thread in TG that is following it, but yeah, we're all hoping it'll be good.

Like, is it clearly advantageous with a big, unreliable guy on a already bashy team?

No. The only teams that 'should' take big guys (Str 5+ w/ negatraits) are teams that lack Str 4+ positionals. that being said, big guys are fun so run one if you want.

They are crap anyway, av7 is just too bad on a ag3 team to ever work. As soon as you hit 1200-1300 tv and every non noob team got 2 tackle POMB players they are dead.

The only way to make a amazon team is to keep it below 1100 tv with blodge on all players and pray that you never face dwarves.

You say this, but I'm running a Norse team at the moment, up to 1600 tv now, and have managed to take only one permanent injury on a non-lineman thus far, and have won or tied 3/4ths of my games. Low AV is runnable, it's just a matter of making sure you knock down or outnumber whenever possible.

A norse team has no way to compete against orcs which are simply better in every way.
They have 1 higher armor at the cost of 1-2 fewer skills and less movement at equal TV. At super high TVs this won't matter, but up to 2000 TV 1-2 extra skills per player can mean a lot. Also: rookie linemen with Block is a boon; it helps keep TV lower for longer.

ZigZag posted:

That you can win some games with norse dosent change the fact that they are a gimmick team that can't compete at medium to high TV because the get outbashed by everything that dosent have ag4.
Everything that can naturally outbash the Norse is slower than the Norse and can be screened on the defense. On the offense all it takes is one hole and the Norse can break away from most bash teams. They aren't so different from playing higher strength, lower agility Dark Elves.

ZigZag posted:

That you are able to beat some scrubs with your norse team dosen't change the fact that norse are a really bad team.
I'm playing against other goons, most of which have significantly more experience than me, who only picked up the game a few months ago. That your haven't managed to figure out how to play non-specialist teams doesn't change the fact that Norse are completely playable. The way you talk you would think the only races you think are worth playing are Chaos, Skaven, and Wood Elves.

Stepped away from this game for a good long while, glad to see there's still goons actively playing it. Watched the last couple games GNU's current LP and enjoyed them thoroughly. Are people still using IRC to setup matches?

Between goons, yeah. Most of us don't idle in game.

Regarding this, what's the most likely outcome for goon presence in the game? First-day buy? Slowly moving from 1 to 2 as they add teams? Massive influx next time they have a Steam sale?

Myself, it'll probably depend on whether they fix journeymans not counting towards TV and a couple other things.

Unless there are major upgrades, I won't be switching till most of the teams are available.

Yeah, Chaos is a top tier team, it just has a really rocky start. The same could be said of most of the top teams though.
