In 2011, the college Republicans at University of Wyoming somehow managed to get enough money together (I think someone donated it to them) to have Ann Coulter come and give a talk in probably the most blood red state in the union that I call home.

She ended up being really, really late. Turbulence is a common enough problem in the Rockies that flights get delayed or delay landing quite often. When she finally was able to get in to Laramie, she was only present for the last 20 minutes of what I think was supposed to be a two hour long discussion with a Q&A. Then she got the hell out when she was scheduled to be gone, all at the expense of someone else and all she did was slam on liberals as much as she could in that small amount of time.

And the people that wanted to go ate up every second of it.

I caught about two minutes of some guy substituting for Bill O'Reilly today and they're talking about the Carnival Triumph. He has somehow spun the event into making it sound like everyone got some kind of extended vacation, everyone made it out uninjured and that no one died, the cruise liner is giving them things like another trip and such for free, and that they should be grateful.

I can't even make it into two minutes of this poo poo without being cast into a near-violent mood swing. How on earth do you people stand to listen to this poo poo?

I love how universally repulsive the liberal lifestyle farce is. Even in my home state of Wyoming, the two major liberal strongholds, Jackson and Laramie, are dominated by rich white ranchers or suburbanites from elsewhere that price out the town to everyone beneath their tax bracket.

Although it's pretty hard for a lot of people to even find anywhere to live in Wyoming at a decent price because everything's already jacked up because of the oil and coal boom.

Casper and Cheyanne were pretty cheap as of last year. I never lived in Wyoming personally but I lived in Denver for most of my life before I moved to New York this year and my friends up there were paying pennies on the dollar to what I was paying in Denver for square footage. Then again, now that I'm paying 4x as much as I was for a house rental in Denver for less than 400 square feet in Manhattan all midwest / southwest pricing has become reasonable so maybe my financial barometer just broke.

Anyway I thought most of the steam from the Wyoming booms was migrating to middle of nowhere in the Dakotas where the revival of the company town has become a new conservative mark of pride?

I'm making a broad statement. I don't know much about the cost of living in Casper or Cheyenne because I never had the desire to live there nor do I know anyone in those areas. My living experience in Wyoming has been mostly in my hometown of Riverton and in Laramie when I was still going to UW. Rates are high enough in Riverton for the oil field workers that make the 120 mile commute to Rawlins or 160 miles to Pinedale that they can afford it, but the rest of us stuck on eight or nine bucks an hour at poo poo jobs can barely make it. Laramie's problem is that it's a college town and everyone with property to rent and every real estate agency in town is fleecing students and other low wage workers for as much as they can.

I actually moved to the Denver metro area in June and this is my second time out here. The first time was in 2005 when I got out of high school and made the mistake of going to a for-profit school for game art design for a year. I'm out here again because I like the area and am waiting out the time I need to establish residency and get the in-state tuition rate at Metro so I can finally finish my god drat undergrad degree. I actually miss listening to Wyoming Public Radio because the fundraising segments on Colorado Public Radio make me see red because they are so much more annoying. And I also miss Bob Beck's voice. And! Grady Kirkpatrick had such an eclectic taste in music, so Wyoming Morning Music during the week would be a treat sometimes. A John Prine song would be on the playlist every few days and then a band like The Cure would slip through ever so often.

Because it's the closest thing to a scandal that the Obama administration has done that they can latch onto.

In the meantime, enjoy this raving lunatic:

Steven Ahle posted:

Obama’s EPA has declared that the city of Riverton, Wyoming, with over 10,000 people is no longer part of the United States and have given it to the Indians. In essence, all Americans living in Riverton are no longer living in the United States and are not eligible for state or federal services. They can also be tossed off land they bought and paid for since their deeds do not have to be recognized by the Indians. The Indians have argued for years that they should get full ownership of 1 million more acres of land because it should be part of their reservation.

The problem is that congress decided the borders in legislation passed in 1905. If this ruling is allowed to stand, the EPA can arbitrarily take land away from its owners and give it to anyone they choose to. The governor of Wyoming, Matt Mead is threatening to refuse to recognize the EPA’a authority.

“My deep concern is about an administrative agency of the federal government altering a state’s boundary and going against over 100 years of history and law. This should be a concern to all citizens because, if the EPA can unilaterally take land away from a state, where will it stop?”

The Wyoming delegation to congress has sent a letter to the EPA demanding they reverse their decision. All parties agree the final decision must be made in the federal courts.
It is unclear whether the EPA is considering turning over all 1 million acres the Indians are requesting.

Sen. Leland Christensen argues:

“This is an alarming action when you have a federal agency step in and start to undo congressional acts that has really been our history for 108 years … with the stroke of a pen without talking to the biggest groups impacted, and that would be the city of Riverton and the state of Wyoming.”

The EPA refuses to comment on their decision.

I think it's more of the idea that sex (for women) is meant for procreation and nothing more. By using birth control, you negate the possibility of creation.

When I was in Key Club, one of our members refused to participate in anything we did that was tied to UNICEF because she was Catholic and UNICEF advocated pro-choice policy. Doesn't matter if they also advocated things like the eradication of polio. If there's a hint of abortion or birth control, it was evil.

I've wondered about that myself too. As someone that's a gigantic fan of his show and has all four of his comedy albums, there are times when I'm listening and watching that something seems a bit off. I would peg him as a liberal based on his work, but also pretty centrist.

I also feel the same way about George Carlin at times. He becomes another man after his first wife dies and there's a lot of bitterness.

I'd also like to bring up that Trey Parker is a massive libertarian and Matt Stone considers himself a conservative because, to paraphrase, "gently caress liberals". The episode of South Park where the kids are voting for a turd sandwich or a douchbag really pisses me off because it comes off as saying that voting is meaningless.

It's okay if the Republicans break the rules because they play it up like it's for the good of the country or state or whatever. Doesn't matter if it's as low as bellyaching about things and stalling for time or as awful as genocide. But if the other team does it oh hell no.
