Noted sex-tourist Rush Limbaugh has something to say about the treatment of women?

It may have already been mentioned, but didn't Chomsky talk about right-wing radio listeners in a somewhat sympathetic way? As in, if you try to remove yourself from your social awareness/education/etc. the stupid populism Limbaugh and his cohorts sell seems reasonable. Almost certainly most Rush listeners aren't "bad people," they're just reacting to various crises of capitalism within their own (flawed) framework.

If someone has a link to what I'm referencing, I'd appreciate it since I can't find it right now. As far as I remember, I guess the main point was that a lot of people have lived according to the "rules" and when the American Dream comes personally crashing down around them, it's easy to fall into trap of blaming the scary other (whether that be Obama, the scary liberals, Democrats or whatever)

Currently watching "Obama 2016" which some mystery PAC sent me today. I was really hoping it would be similar to the truly hilarious Dreams From My Real Father, but it's not. It's actually pretty drat slick, well-produced, and professional seeming.

Of course it's batshit stupid and blatantly disingenuous, but still... it kind of scares me that conservatives may be catching on to the fact that competently produced propaganda (bizarro Michael Moore) is better than flirting with Alex Jones poo poo.

EDIT: Just kidding, the first 30 minutes are not indicative at all of the rest of this loving movie. It goes full-retard towards the end.

At least since 2004, I believe. I have to say, Savage is probably my "favorite" talk-radio nutjob... I love how one one minute he'll be on some transparently fascist rant, then the next minute telling a sweet story about his little dog.

For me it's a mix of half self-loathing and half-"oh my god I'm a way better person than this guy even if he's faking it to make a buck. And what the hell, there are sad unfortunate people stupid enough to buy this poo poo... I feel better about myself (kinda) but that also makes me sort of sad"

Since I live in a valley in Appalachia, there's basically no radio except for NPR and conservative talk. Though this isn't completely related to right-wing radio, I had the pleasure of listening to "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me" while driving to the grocery store this afternoon...and I got to hear (possibly) the two worst punch-lines I've ever heard in my life:

Here's the link if you enjoy awkward, horrible poo poo as much as I do. Otherwise I just quoted it below:
(Hit play full episode, scroll down to "Limericks." then start it at about 2:30)
http://www.npr.org/programs/wait-wait-dont-tell-me/

"Drones can track you with thermal imaging, but not if you're wearing a new drone proof clothing called stealth wear. The large, silver, tent-like garments make you completely invisible to drones... and to potential mates!! However, the new predator drones can defeat this defense with their new UGLY SEEKING MISSILES ! ! !"

I guess in a way this could probably be categorized at right-wing "humor." It derives its lame punch-line from a dismissal of the real threat drones (or more importantly, the military in general) have on actual people. And the "joke" comes from a place of privilege.

But I'm also kinda dumb, so I probably shouldn't over-analyze what is actually just a really, really lovely joke.

Edit: Also, hating on accents is super loving dumb and often classist as hell, idiots. I don't particularly "enjoy" Minnesotan accents, but that is entirely my problem and it literally says nothing about about someone who speaks that way. Same thing for any other region, goddamn.

"A range of mainstream American publications printed paid propaganda for the government of Malaysia, much of it focused on the campaign against a pro-democracy figure there. The payments to conservative American opinion writers — whose work appeared in outlets from the Huffington Post and San Francisco Examiner to the Washington Times to National Review and RedState — emerged in a filing this week to the Department of Justice. The filing under the Foreign Agent Registration Act outlines a campaign spanning May 2008 to April 2011 and led by Joshua Trevino, a conservative pundit, who received $389,724.70 under the contract and paid smaller sums to a series of conservative writers.

...

Trevino’s subcontractors included conservative writer Ben Domenech, who made $36,000 from the arrangement, and Rachel Ehrenfeld, the director of the American Center for Democracy, who made $30,000. Seth Mandel, an editor at Commentary, made $5,500 (his byline is attached to the National Review item linked to above). Brad Jackson, writing at the time for RedState, made $24,700. Overall, 10 writers were part of the arrangement."

Yeah, this is batshit insane. Has there been any real media coverage of this? $400k doesn't sound like a drop in a bucket when it's going to a third rate DC rear end-sniffer.

The talk on the previous pages of right-wing dads ruining holidays has me nervous about this upcoming Thanksgiving. I'm headed down south to spend the holiday with my girlfriend's folks, and her father is a psychopath when it comes to this stuff. I talk to him on the phone every once in a while and he always twists it into something about Obama being a communist/muslim/friend of the family. Now that I've recently started working at a university, I get frequent warnings about all my socialist co-workers and how they're trying to brainwash me. I've been very good about just sort of smiling and nodding through the bullshit the last few years, but the guy is really aggressive and persistent. I want nothing more than to tell him how wrong and crazy he is, but the man is on all sorts of painkillers and meds and has literally threatened complete strangers with the gun he keeps in his glovebox on more than one occasion.

The worst part about it is that the guy's life has been broken by all the same poo poo that he trusts and dedicates himself to so absolutely. His back was irreparably damaged by a chiropractor, and when it took too long for him to recover, his job fired him. He lost his prescription plan, so all the chronic pain from his back led him to self-medicate. He hasn't been able to get the treatment he needs to remain a functioning member of society, so he's completely out of work and pissing away all of his retirement money just so he can continue to pay his mortgage, which is completely unsustainable.

But affordable healthcare? Socialist bullshit. Unions and workers rights? Corrupt goons putting excess strain on job creators

It's so frustrating because I know if the man had any critical thinking skills whatsoever, he would see that the very ideology he worships and aspires to is the same thing that has destroyed him. But I also don't want to get shot

In my opinion the best thing to do is just hold your tongue. The man's life is loving poo poo heap and he's looking to blame some outside source for his problems. On a personal level, it's understandable and he probably deserves some empathy. I think Chomsky wrote something good about this where the gist was basically that you have millions of American men who have done exactly what our society asks of them, accordingly expect a Good Life, and reality spits back in their face. When confronted with depressing stagnating wages (let alone personal disability) it's kind of understandable why Limbaugh and his sewer rat ilk speak to these people
