The story of being on Jeopardy and winning is great, coming in 2nd is honorable, being last place is a punchline. Yeah, this is justly wholly incorrect. as long as you don't channel wolf blitzer, just getting on the show is an accomplishment and if you don't win then it doesn't matter where you placed. nobody is getting jeered for "last place" in a 3-player game where only first matters. I think people play suboptimally re: DD betting and such because, you know, they're trivia fans and jeopardy! fans and they didn't devote their life to grinding out every edge in a silly game show you only get to play once. None of it has to do with wanting to finish second instead of third. Sure, it's worth taking a minute to figure out betting for second in a runaway scenario because there's a thousand bucks on the line, but there's really no other difference between the two also-ran places Duckman2008 posted:I can't stress enough: pretty much everyone does not go on tv trivia shows every day (Spokes might be the exception).

What a great night 1. Super close and really could have gone anyone’s way. I think I’m most impressed with James, grudgingly. We knew ken and brad were smart but James is showing he can compete with the absolute best on knowledge alone. Some of those pulls, drat. I came in rooting for brad but seeing how much the win last night meant for Ken I’m even more on board with either of them winning. I’m sure they’ll highlight brad or James with their little segment tonight and I’ll be rooting for them next. I just love jeopardy!

So It Goes posted:Males and females have performed basically identical in the show in terms of getting questions right. However males make higher wagers/bets and presumably win more often though that. Of course one other thing the “percent right” stats wouldn’t account for is a female contestant might not buzz in at all in a more male biased category. very impressed by the amount of work that went into this and then they just didn't split out pre-doubled values "While round one questions worth $1,000 had the lowest likelihood of being answered correctly (almost 1-to-1), questions valued at $500 proved to be the second most difficult. Additionally, categories worth $600 and $800 had a ratio of over 2-to-1 in both rounds, which just goes to show – you never know which question is going to be the one that stumps you."

sunnyboy posted:I think the 'Greatest' competition has had a slightly negative effect on 'regular' Jeopardy. Mainly, after watching 3 of the best and brightest at Jeopardy just killing every kind of esoteric 'answer' in a wide variety of categories, watching the current crop of 'less than the greatest' flail about either just standing around (no-one answers) on super easy questions, or flat-out getting them wrong... is painful. jeopardy is fun because you get to watch normal people who know a little bit more than the average person do their best to answer tough questions. they obviously know enough to get on the show and some games are tougher than others. that's part of the fun, and it's great when you know something the contestants don't (although you don't have to make a post about it every time) there's the ToC every year and a higher-level tournament a few times a decade for people who just hate seeing easy questions but like... watch university challenge or something. idk, man edit: or... just go beat jeopardy for like six figures and pay quiz bowlers to duke it out in front of you for $20 an hour Spokes fucked around with this message at 05:15 on Feb 14, 2020 |
